Reason Why Pharaohs Of Egypt Sacked Hossam Hassan As Head Coach Finally revealed
Coach Hossam Hassan’s marital issues have spilled into the public eye, brutally cutting short a promising tenure as the Egyptian National team handler after a historic run that saw the Pharaohs roaring into the Round of 16 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
From World Cup glory to off-the-pitch drama, Cairo has exploded into footballing chaos with the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) pulling the plug on Hossam to address public concerns about the team’s image.
Just months after guiding Egypt shoulder-to-shoulder with the world’s best, and famously bowing out to Argentina in a tension-soaked encounter, Hassan finds himself dethroned not by a tactical masterclass or a losing streak, but by a blistering private-life storm.
The writing had been on the wall ever since personal disputes involving his marriages spilled violently into the public sphere. In an unprecedented clampdown, Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation slammed the door shut on the national icon, slapping him with a total media ban.
For the federation, the equation was cold and merciless: headlines about domestic turmoil were completely overshadowing the proud red shirt. Citing a “negative impact on the positive image of the team” and declaring stability a non-negotiable commandment, the EFA opted to sever ties rather than ride out the scandal.
Enter Ali Maher.
With no room to entertain any vacuum, the tactical brains behind Ceramica Cleopatra FC now inherits a ticking time bomb wrapped in a golden opportunity. With 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Malawi looming large on November 13 and 17, Maher has zero time to catch his breath, let alone soothe a shaken locker room.
The pitch in Cairo is quiet for a fleeting second, the dust of a World Cup dream is still settling, and a new era begins under the most chaotic of spotlights.
Tough But Necessary Call
Announcing the decision to relieve Hossam Hassan of his duties as national team boss, the EFA said Ali Maher is stepping in as his immediate replacement, saying the difficult decision was taken after its Board of directors met to discuss the latest developments.
In an official statement released on Saturday, the Football body said the Board had voted to thank Hassan, his technical and administrative staff, in line with the terms of the contract, while handing Maher the reins of the senior national team for the period ahead.
Officials paid tribute to the efforts and dedication Hassan showed during his time in charge, wishing him good fortune and success in the next chapter of his career.
According to the statement, the change came out of the Board meeting, with directors weighing up the circumstances and events of the recent period. They pointed to the fallout from those events and the damage done to the positive image and stability of the national team.
Maher, the association added, laid out his vision for assembling his backroom staff for the coming period once his appointment was made official.
The EFA rounded off the statement insisting that the national team’s interests sit at the top of their priorities. They renewed their call for Egyptian football fans and all supporters to get behind the team and rally around it through the crucial weeks ahead, driving it towards the ambitions of its supporters.
