BREAKING: Former CSU Lecturer Claims Tinubu Never Attended Chicago State University
A former lecturer at Chicago State University has accused Bola Ahmed Tinubu of lying about his educational background, insisting that the former Lagos State governor never attended the American institution.
The speaker, who claimed to have lectured at the university for five years between 1985 and 1990, described Tinubu as a “bona fide professional liar” while questioning his educational records.
Speaking during an interview, the former lecturer claimed he was the director of the academic programme Tinubu allegedly claimed to have attended, insisting that he had personal knowledge of the institution’s records.

“I used to be a lecturer at Chicago State University. For five years. I was the director of the programme in which Tinubu said he attended,” he said.
He further claimed that he had access to information about Tinubu’s academic records as far back as 1999, when individuals investigating the former Lagos governor’s educational background reportedly approached him.
According to him, he provided the information but advised those involved against making Tinubu’s educational background the central focus of their political campaign.
“I had the information. All the trouble that people were going around looking for information, I had it there. I gave it to them, but I told them this is not how you win an election,” he said.
The former lecturer maintained that Tinubu never attended Chicago State University, accusing him of lacking integrity and describing him as a “professional crook.” He also accused the Minister of Education of lying while defending Tinubu’s educational background.
The allegation revives the controversy surrounding Tinubu’s academic qualifications, which became a major issue during the 2023 presidential election. During subsequent US court proceedings, Chicago State University’s registrar testified under oath that Tinubu attended the institution from 1977 to 1979 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
The university’s registrar also provided academic records and testified about the diploma submitted by Tinubu to INEC. A 2023 BBC fact-check found no evidence that the diploma was forged, although questions surrounding aspects of his academic records have continued to feature in political debates.
