MMA2 Accelerates Preparations For Regional Flight Operations
Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Ltd. (BASL), operators of Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal-2 (MMA2), Lagos, is accelerating preparations for regional flights following a settlement of its longstanding concession dispute.
The settlement agreement has paved the way for further terminal development, with infrastructure upgrades and regulatory approvals underway ahead of the planned commencement of regional operations.
BASL Chairman, Dr Wale Babalakin, disclosed this on Thursday in Lagos during an inspection of facilities being prepared for the operations.
Babalakin inspected the regional arrivals area, apron extension and staff and concessionaire access gate to assess ongoing preparatory works.
He commended the team for its progress but urged members to sustain the momentum and complete the required infrastructure within the stipulated timeline.
The chairman stressed the need for close coordination with government agencies and regulatory authorities to secure all necessary inspections, assessments and approvals before operations began.
He specifically emphasised the importance of keeping the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) fully engaged throughout the process.
Babalakin also urged the team to prioritise facility finishing, safety standards, operational readiness and stakeholder coordination while complying with applicable regulatory requirements.
The Acting Chief Executive Officer of BASL, Mrs Idunnu Oyebolu, said preparations for regional operations were progressing alongside plans to accommodate increased year-end passenger traffic.
“As we put the necessary infrastructure and operational arrangements in place for regional operations, we are equally preparing for the anticipated increase in passenger traffic during the year-end season.
“Our priority is to ensure that our facilities, personnel and processes are adequately prepared to deliver seamless, safe and efficient passenger experience during this period,” she said.
Oyebolu said the company remained focused on maintaining service standards while positioning MMA2 to accommodate the anticipated developments.
The Acting Chief Operating Officer and Head of Aeronautical and Cargo Services, Mr Remi Jibodu, led the inspection team and briefed Babalakin on progress.
Jibodu reaffirmed the team’s commitment to meeting the timeline for commencing regional operations while ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
“Following the Chairman’s inspection and guidance, we will intensify efforts across all work streams, strengthen coordination with the relevant agencies and regulatory authorities.
“We will also ensure that all required inspections and approvals are completed ahead of commencement,” he said.
Jibodu said the ongoing works would facilitate passenger processing and aircraft operations for regional flights.
The planned expansion is expected to broaden passengers’ travel options and strengthen MMA2’s contribution to Nigeria’s aviation sector and regional connectivity.
