BREAKING: Edo Government Begins Construction Of General Hospital In Iguobazuwa
The Edo Government on Thursday performed the groundbreaking for construction of a general hospital in Iguobazuwa, Ovia South–West Local Government Area of the state.
The Deputy Governor of the state, Mr Dennis Idahosa, who represented Gov. Monday Okpebholo at the ceremony, said the project was meant to improve access to secondary healthcare in the area.
According to him, the hospital will serve residents of Ovia South West local government area and the neighbouring Ovia North–East.
He described the project as a lasting investment in the health of the people, saying future generations would benefit from it.
“Even 50, 60 years from now, the children yet unborn will benefit from this hospital,” Idahosa said.
Mr Oseyame Arunde, Managing Director of Arrow Synergy Nigeria Ltd., and the project contractor, said the facility would include a pharmacy, mortuary and residential quarters for doctors and nurses.
He said the accommodation would enable medical personnel to provide round–the–clock services.
“We are going to assure the public and assure the governor that we are going to deliver this project to specification,” Arunde said.
Speaking with journalists, Mr Omorodion Ikponmwonsa, Edo Commissioner for Oil and Gas, who is also from the community, said the hospital would reduce the need to refer patients to general hospitals in Benin City.
He described the facility as a secondary healthcare centre that would receive patients referred from primary healthcare centres.
“It will now save the lives of our people whenever there is a referral from the primary to the secondary healthcare centre,” he said.
Ikponmwonsa said the hospital would provide accommodation for medical personnel.
Also speaking, Mr Sunday Aghedo, member, representing Ovia South–West in the State House of Assembly, said the community needed a modern hospital.
He noted that the existing facility had been there for decades.
Aghedo, who said he attended Igobazuwa Grammar School and completed his studies in 1982, expressed gratitude to the governor for the project.
Similarly, Mr Robert Okubo, Special Adviser to Gov. Okpebholo on Riverine Communities, thanked the governor for siting the hospital in the local government area.
He described it as a first of its kind for the area.
On his part, Mr Anthony Osarobo, Chairman, Ovia South–West Local Government Area, said the community is grateful for the project and pledged support of the community to the governor in the forthcoming general elections.
