BREAKING: Aston Villa Outclass Liverpool To Qualify For 2026/2027 Champions League

Aston Villa boosted their hopes of securing a UEFA Champions League place after a commanding 4-2 victory over Liverpool in a thrilling Premier League encounter on Friday night.

The emphatic win moved Unai Emery’s side into fourth position on the Premier League table with one round of matches remaining, intensifying the battle for Champions League qualification.

Villa produced a clinical attacking display at Villa Park, with Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins and John McGinn all finding the net in a pulsating contest.

After an evenly balanced opening spell, Aston Villa broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute when Morgan Rogers reacted quickest inside the penalty area to fire home following a scramble in the box.

Liverpool responded strongly after the interval and drew level in the 52nd minute through captain Virgil van Dijk, who powered a header into the net from a well-delivered set piece.

However, the home side regained control five minutes later when Ollie Watkins rifled a low finish into the bottom corner after being picked out by Rogers.

Villa extended their advantage in the 73rd minute after Watkins reacted fastest to a rebound on the goal line to make it 3-1 following a VAR check that confirmed the goal.

The hosts sealed an outstanding performance in the 89th minute when John McGinn unleashed a stunning strike from outside the box into the top corner to send the Villa Park crowd into celebration.

Liverpool managed a late consolation goal in stoppage time as Van Dijk grabbed his second of the evening with another header, but it proved insufficient to spark a comeback.

Despite moments of attacking pressure from Arne Slot’s men, including efforts from Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo, Aston Villa remained the more dangerous side throughout much of the contest.

The victory capped a remarkable evening for Emery’s side, who now hold a crucial advantage in the race for a top-four finish heading into the final weekend of the season.
