BREAKING: Nigeria Police Begin Recruitment Of Retired Officers As Ad-Hoc Trainers For New Recruits

The Nigeria Police Force has issued a nationwide directive calling for the immediate compilation and submission of names of qualified retired officers to serve as ad-hoc staff in its training institutions.

The directive, contained in a wireless message dated December 8, 2025, from the Department of Training and Development (DTD) at Force Headquarters, Abuja, was circulated to the Deputy Inspectors General of Police, Assistant Inspectors General in charge of the 17 zonal commands, all Commissioners of Police across the 36 state commands and the FCT, as well as various specialised police units including MOPOL, Terrorism Directorate, Marine, Airwing, Medical, Border Patrol, Force CID, Force Intelligence, and others.

According to the police wireless message, the Inspector-General of Police ordered all commands and formations to liaise with the appropriate personnel officers within their jurisdictions and forward the names of interested and qualified retired officers for consideration.

The request covers officers who retired between 2020 and 2025, specifically from the ranks of Inspector to Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP).

Eligible officers must be “well grounded” in the Police Act 2020, Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015, and other relevant regulations, and must possess core competencies in at least one of the following areas: drill, musketry, unarmed combat, professional studies, legal studies, or liberal studies.
The retired personnel are being considered for engagement as ad-hoc instructors in the training of new recruit constables across police colleges and training schools nationwide.

Commands are required to compile and submit detailed returns, including serial number, name, highest academic qualification, date of retirement, command or formation last served, area of training competence, and preferred police training institution where the officer is willing to serve.

The message emphasised urgency, directing that all submissions be sent to the designated email address on or before December 18, 2025.
