Naija News reports that the INEC’s commissioner for information and voter education, Festus Okoye, during an interview with Channels TV, on Sunday, December 18, 2022, said that the electoral body will not postpone or reschedule the elections for any reason. He noted that the INEC is committed to conducting free, fair, transparent, and inclusive elections to ensure they give Nigerians the best election ever. Okoye added that the commission’s national chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, has assured Nigerians that unlike what happened in 2019, the forthcoming elections will not be postponed. In his words: “We are committed to the conduct of free, fair, transparent and inclusive elections and we are working assiduously to make sure we give Nigerians the best election ever. And that is our commitment to the people of Nigeria and we are not going to fail. “The chairman of the commission, Prof Mahmoud Yakubu, has promised the people of this country that under his watch no election will be postponed or rescheduled on account of logistics or logistics challenges and we are committed to that.”  INEC Chairman Speaks About Compromising Elections The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmood Yakubu has come out to speak on issues that can compromise the forthcoming general election if not curbed. According to Yakubu, with the recent consistent attacks on the facilities of the commission in various parts of the federation, elections might be compromised at the polls next year. Naija News reports that the INEC boss made this pronouncement in Abuja on Friday while addressing the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee Investigating the Attacks on Offices and Facilities of INEC. Yakubu, while explaining the effect of attacking its offices ahead of the 2023 general election to the committee said if the attacks are not curbed, the commission would lack time to recover which can affect elections. The INEC chair reiterated that even though the commission is determined to conduct free, fair and credible elections, the continuous attacks on its facilities pose great threats to its preparedness.
