JUST IN: 22 Cadets Die In Military Plane Crash—-A fatal military plane crash was on Friday evening witnessed on the highway of north-eastern Ukraine, around two kilometres (1.2 miles) from a military airport killing at least 22 air force cadets on board it.
Ruslan Khomchak, the General Staff of the Armed Forces, in a statement said that the Antonov An-26 airplane crashed while trying to land during a training exercise. He added that at least two more persons were critically injured, NAN reports.
From a video posted on facebook by Anton Gerashchenko, the Deputy Interior Minister, the aircraft was seen in flames lying near a road and smoke billowing upwards in the night sky. The cadets were from the Kharkiv University of Air Force, which is run by the country’s Defence Ministry.
Currently, there’s an ongoing investigation to ascertain the cause of the airplane crash.
In his reaction, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s office said: “A state commission is being created to identify all the circumstances and causes of this disaster. Search and rescue work continues on the spot.”
