A Kenyan man has been arrested for setting his wife ablaze because she returned home late.

25-year-old Lucy Nyira is reportedly nursing serious injuries at the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital following the incident. She suffered 25% degree burns after her husband Bernard Kariha, 24, allegedly set her ablaze.

The incident occured on Saturday night ( September 28 )at Kiratina village in Nakuru County, Kenya.

Lucy had travelled to Nairobi on Friday to purchase goods for sale and went back the next day. When an argument ensued between herself and her husband , he angrily doused her with petrol, set her ablaze before locking her inside the house to die.

Lucy who suffered 25% degree burns was rushed to the hospital by neighbours who went to rescue her. Doctors confirmed that the patient suffered burns on the face, arms, legs and upper body but is out of danger.

According to Citizen TV, the later also accussed her husband of 3 years, 24-year-old Bernard Kariha has been abusive before.

 

Nakuru County Police Commander Stephen Matu later confirmed that the suspect is in police custody pending investigations.
