Supporters of the two main contenders in the presidential election, Muhammadu Buhari of the APC and those of Atiku Abubakar from the PDP have already begun to project victory for their respective candidates shortly after INEC released the total number of Permanent Voters Card (PVCs) collected across the country ahead of the general elections.

The INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, at a press conference on Thursday, February 21, noted that a total of 72.7 million PVCs were collected across the country.

The data released by the electoral commission shows that the states with the highest number of PVCs collected are: Lagos 5.5m, Kano 4.7m, Kaduna 3.6m, Katsina 3.2 million and Rivers 2.83m.

Following the figures released by INEC, some Nigerians on social media have begun projecting how the data released could favour their presidential candidate in the February 23 election.

Others are concerned that the figures of PVCs collected may point to the victory of the incumbent president, Muhammadu Buhari. Read some reactions to the issue below:

Wow. How nice!

Yes! And TRULY, Power will be in the hands of the PEOPLE. Geometric growth is what Nigeria deserve, no longer analogue thinking politicians.

@inecnigeria would have totally come to equity with clean hands. That would have crippled any rigging machinery by any political party!!

Then the people will no longer be afraid to support the real people who wants good for the country. People like @YeleSowore

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, on Thursday, February 21, said that the position of the commission on Zamfara and Rivers All Progressive Congress (APC) have not changed.

Legit.ng gathered that the commission had on Wednesday, February 20, said the All Progressives Congress (APC) would not be allowed to participate in any elections except the presidential poll in Rivers and Zamfara states.

Yakubu’s position came despite a letter written to INEC by the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), asking the commission to recognise the APC in Zamfara.
