    Agriculture Minister Lauds Origin Tech Group On Partnership With FG On Greener Hope Agricultural Productivity Programme—On Tuesday, 25th June 2024, the Federal Executive Council approved an Agro-Development Syndicated Facility for which Origin Tech Group is to power a truly Nigeria’s pioneering integrated food security systems through a revolutionary large-scale agricultural mechanization programme code-named “Greener Hope Agricultural Productivity Programme” in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to expand food production significantly.

     

     

    Speaking on the programme on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Live programme on Tuesday, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, while commending Origin Tech Group for its revolutionary yet home-grown initiative stated that the project aims to develop an integrated food security systems that will combine food production, logistics and market hubs spanning 150,000 hectares across the country.

    According to Kyari, ‘’It will provide irrigation equipment, mechanization equipment, and land clearing for large farms ranging from a minimum of 2,000 hectares to a maximum of 25,000 hectares per cluster.

     

    The minister also stated that the programme is projected to create about 1.5 million jobs and drive down food prices by about 25%. It can be likened to a Marshall programme for food production.

     

    The programme intends to achieve its objectives within three years, starting with the 2024 dry season farming. It has a funding timeline of 10 years and focuses on crops of immediate coverage.

     

    Earlier in the year, President Bola Tinubu hinted about the Greener Hope Agricultural Productivity Programme as a cardinal project of his administration during his visit to Minna, Niger State, emphasizing the government’s commitment to food security and local industry protection. He highlighted the initiative’s goal to deploy advanced agricultural machinery and technology for enhanced Agro-value chain productivity.

     

    According to President Tinubu: “The Greener Hope Agricultural Productivity Programme is a crucial platform for addressing the challenges in Nigeria’s agricultural mechanization,”. He underscored the administration’s dedication to transforming Nigeria into an economy of opportunities, ensuring food security, and supporting local industries.

     

    With a proven track record of successful partnerships and market development, Origin Tech Group will oversee this initiative which aims to establish mechanization hubs nationwide, boosting the agricultural sector’s contribution to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

    Recall that President Tinubu on 15th September, 2023, approved the establishment of the Presidential Committee dedicated to the reform of the livestock industry and the provision of long-term solutions to recurring clashes between herders and farmers in the country.

     

    The setting up of the committee was sequel to the submission of a report from the National Conference on Livestock Reforms and Mitigation of Associated Conflicts in Nigeria.

    Hundeyin was a guest on a show when the interviewer compared him to VDM, Seun Kuti, Reno Omokri, and other Nigerians who are active on the internet.

    The journalist’s reaction to the comparison led to him being asked to share his thoughts on VeryDarkMan.

    Hundeyin stated unequivocally that he saw VDM as an opportunist.

    According to him, the internet critic began as a social activist and formed his opinion about the dark man after a terror event in Plateau state, muddying the narrative.

    Hundeyin concluded that either VDM was an extreme clout chaser who enjoyed the sound of his own voice, or he was being funded by someone to alter narratives.

    Hundeyin said:

    “What is your goal? What are you hoping to accomplish by doing that? Especially when you are not in any way informed on the subject. You’re just some guy who put on his phone camera one day and started uploading videos on social media.”

    This initiative comes at a time when food inflation in Nigeria has reached 40.66%, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. The partnership between NACP and Golden Rice Thailand is expected to cushion the effects of food inflation on small households in the country.

    In a bid to cushion the effect of food price hikes, the National Agricultural Commodities Projects (NACP) is supporting smallholder farmers with reduced input prices and a commitment of 50% equity. This initiative aims to boost food production, reduce food prices, and enhance food security in the country.

    By reducing the burden of high input prices on smallholder farmers, NACP is enabling them to increase their productivity and contribute to the overall goal of food security. This support will not only benefit the farmers but also the entire agricultural value chain and the economy at large.

    BREAKING: House Of Reps Asks FG To Suspend Samoa Agreement Over Controversy—–Following a motion of urgent national importance sponsored by 88 members, the House of Representatives has asked the Federal Government to suspend the implementation of the Samoa Agreement until all controversial clauses are addressed and spelt out.

     

    In moving the motion on Tuesday, a member of the House, Aliyu Madaki, drew attention to the clause which highlights “gender equality” and describes it as a Trojan horse which could violate the morals of the country.

     

    The House also mandated its relevant committees to investigate the controversial provisions of the agreement.

     

    Controversy has enveloped the Samoa Agreement signed by the Federal Government with the European Union, with many frowning upon what they thought was the recognition of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) rights by the Nigerian government.

     

    The Samoa deal sparked a barrage of reactions online with many opposing LGBT rights, which is contrary to the anti-same-sex marriages and gay relationships law enacted in 2014 by then President Goodluck Jonathan.

    At the press conference on Saturday, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu; alongside his counterpart in the Ministry of Information, Mohammed Idris, said Nigeria won’t enter into an agreement that was antithetical to the constitution as well as the religious and cultural sensibilities of the heterogeneous people of Nigeria.

    Bagudu said Nigeria signed the agreement to boost food security, and inclusive economic development, amongst other vital areas.

    Last November, the European Union, its 27 member states and 79 member states of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) signed an agreement in Apia, the capital of the Pacific island country of Samoa. Hence, it was referred to as the ‘Samoa Agreement’.

    With the new agreement which succeeded the Cotonou Agreement, the parties are expected to be better equipped to address emerging needs and global challenges, such as climate change, ocean governance, migration, health, peace and security.

    Nigeria signed the agreement on June 28, 2024, but it became public knowledge this week after a disclosure by Bagudu.

    A Mix-Up?

    In a review of the Samoa Agreement, after it was signed last November, the European Parliament observed that the initial draft agreement contained the LGBT provision but noted that member states “were reluctant to see the foundation agreement mention sexual orientation and gender identity (LGBTI rights)”.

     

    Parties, however, reached a compromise to commit only to the implementation of existing international agreements on the matter.

     

    Subsequently, LGBT rights were expunged from the final agreement and replaced with “gender equality”. Specifically, Article 2, clause 5 of the final agreement stated that “the parties shall systematically promote a gender perspective and ensure that gender equality is mainstreamed across all policies”.

    #KWASU Expels 175 Students Over Alleged Exam Malpractice, Others—The Genius Media Nigeria reports that Kwara State University (KWASU) in Malete has expelled 175 students due to a variety of misconduct, including examination malpractice.

     

    TGM gathered that this decision was detailed in a statement by the university’s interim Director of University Relations, Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, which she made available to reporters on Monday, July 8, 2024.

     

    The statement outlined the reasons for the student’s expulsion, which included cheating during examination, theft, fabrication of academic records for admission purposes, physical violence, deceit, membership in unrecognized groups, and unlawful possession of a weapon, among other infractions.

    The statement read, “This is to inform the public that the following 175 students have been expelled from Kwara State University, Malete, for various offences.

    “The approval of the expulsion followed the recommendations of the Students’ Disciplinary Committee, which held sittings between October 2021 and March 2024.

    “The expelled students were penalised for offences ranging from examination malpractices, theft, using fake results to gain admission, assault, fraud, belonging to unregistered associations, and possession of a firearm.

    “The management of Kwara State University wishes to reiterate its zero-tolerance for all acts of indiscipline as the institution stands firm on producing graduates who are excellent both in character and in learning.”

     

    Exactly four months ago, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force arrested four students in connection with the death of a fellow student at the Kwara State University (KWASU) community in Malete, Moro local government area.

    Naija News recalls that the arrest was made following an altercation that occurred penultimate week at one of the private hostels located off the university premises.

    According to reports from Vanguard, the conflict erupted after the deceased student was caught filming the four suspects without their permission.

    The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was allegedly recording a private discussion among the students when one of them noticed his actions.

    Confronted about why he was filming without consent, the student reportedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation, sparking anger among the group.

    The situation quickly escalated as the four students attacked him, leading to injuries that resulted in his death.

    A student who craved anonymity said, “The victim later died from the severity of the beating meted out to him by the students.”

    The State Police Public Relations officer, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi (DSP), confirmed the incident.

    “The alleged culprits were four, but I cannot confirm their names now. They have been arrested while an investigation is still ongoing over the matter,” DSP Ejire-Adeyemi had said.

    BREAKING: Lagos State Reintroduces Monthly Environmental Sanitation After 8 Years—–The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the reintroduction of monthly environmental sanitation in the state.

    The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who disclosed this to newsmen said the State Executive Council granted the approval. He said the sanitation which would commence in July, would be officially announced by the governor soon.

    “Lagos governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the state executive council have approved the re-introduction of the monthly sanitation. The governor will announce it officially for the exercise to commence this month,” Wahab, who spoke in Yoruba language, said in a 21-second clip shared on the Lagos State Environmental Update page on X.

    The state government stopped the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in the state in 2016.

    This year’s event, themed “The Force of Influence,” honoured 17 exceptional influencers, content creators, and brands, for their impactful contributions to the social media landscape.

    Held on July 7th at the prestigious Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, Trendupp Awards once again provided a platform to acknowledge and celebrate the creativity and influence of Nigeria’s audacious stars. The evening was hosted by the multi-talented influencer, content creator, and TV host, Kiekie (Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori), who infused the event with her vibrant energy, making it a night to remember.

    This year, Trendupp Awards introduced two exciting new categories: “Force of The Pod” and “Force of Influence (International).” Force of The Pod recognizes influencers and content creators who effectively use podcasts to educate, engage, and impact their audience while Force of Influence (International) celebrates creators who command significant influence in the international social media space.

    From a competitive pool of 102 nominees across 17 categories, the winners were selected by a distinguished Judging Council comprised of renowned media personalities and thought leaders from across Africa, including Busola Tejumola, Do2DTun (Oladotun Ojuolape Kayode), Denrele Edun, Yinka Adebayo, Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Adaora Mbelu, Olusola Bodunde-Sanusi and Aisha Augie. The selection criteria were based on creativity, engagement, and consistency.

    Speaking at the event, Tiwalola Olanubi, Founder/CEO of Trendupp Africa, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all the nominees and winners for their dedication and contributions to the creator economy in Nigeria and Africa at large. He remarked:

    JUST IN: AGF Keeps Mum As FG Set To Release IPOB’s Nnamdi Kanu—-The Genius Media Nigeria reports that The President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is reportedly under intense pressure to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

     

    TGM reports that Kanu has been in federal government custody since June 2021, after his extradition from Kenya.

     

    Sources within the government indicated that Kanu may be released soon. However, the terms of his potential release remain undisclosed.

    The presidency officially refused to comment on the development when contacted last night.

    However, sources in the presidency told Daily Trust that the leaders from the South East geopolitical zone have the right to ask for the president’s intervention on the matter.

    South-East Leaders Intensify Lobbying

    Political leaders from the South-East geopolitical zone have intensified lobbying efforts to secure Kanu’s release in the past few weeks. This includes several meetings and open appeals to the government.

    The pressure from the zonal leaders, which transcends political party affiliation, has seen both legislators and chief executives of the five states in the region unite in seeking a political solution to the impasse, which has led to economic and social crises in the zone.

    The situation has resulted in hundreds of lives lost since IPOB declared a sit-at-home order on Mondays across the zone, enforced by its paramilitary wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

    Federal Government’s Stance

    The federal government, through the office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, refused to divulge its plans, stating that commenting on the matter would be sub judice.

    However, Daily Trust gathered that the governors of the five states would soon meet the president to formally present their resolution.

    At the end of a meeting on July 2, attended by Governors Hope Uzodinma of Imo, Alex Otti of Abia, Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, and host Peter Mbah of Enugu State, the governors resolved to interface with the federal government to secure Kanu’s release.

    A day after the Enugu meeting, senators from the region, under the aegis of the South East Caucus of the Senate, met with the AGF.

    Their leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, revealed that aside from pleading for Kanu’s release, the Caucus submitted a passionate letter to President Tinubu.

    Abaribe noted that unless Kanu is released, social and economic activities in the South-East zone would continue to suffer.

    He lamented that the peaceful demand of Kanu had been hijacked by hoodlums and criminals, leading to the killings of innocent people, including security operatives.

    The South-East Caucus in the House of Representatives also announced their support for Kanu’s release.

    A statement signed by 43 lawmakers, including Deputy Speaker Benjamin Okezie Kalu (Abia), Deputy Minority Whip George Ozodinobi (Anambra), Caucus Leader Enwo Igariwey (Ebonyi), Deputy Leader Nnolim Nnaji (Enugu), and Secretary Miriam Onuoha (Imo), emphasized that a political solution remains one of the quickest ways to restore peace in the region.

    Legal Perspectives and Possible Outcomes

    Renowned constitutional lawyer Professor Auwalu Yadudu stated that if the government could extract a commitment from South-East leaders, it could enter a ‘nolle prosequi’—discontinuing the trial.

    Professor Seyi Akinseye-George (SAN) added that an out-of-court settlement would require a political decision by authorities.

    Barrister Chukwudi Igwe suggested a legal leeway that could be exercised by the President through the AGF to withdraw the charges against Kanu.

    FG Warned To Resolve Minimum Wage Now To Avert Violent Protest—-The Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC) has issued a stern warning to the Nigerian government, urging immediate action to resolve the ongoing minimum wage negotiations with organized labour.

     

    This call comes amid concerns of potential unrest similar to recent events in Kenya.

     

    During a press briefing on Monday, Maj.-Gen. Christopher Olukolade (Rtd), Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the CCC, emphasized the critical need for the government to engage constructively with labour representatives to prevent the escalation of the minimum wage issue into violence.

    The CCC, which monitors and analyzes national crisis situations, has identified the prolonged minimum wage discussions as a trigger that could lead to public disorder if not addressed promptly.

    In addition to the minimum wage dispute, Olukolade highlighted other volatile issues requiring government intervention, including the Kano emirship tussle and the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.

    The CCC advises that these matters be permanently resolved to prevent them from deteriorating into major crises.

    Olukolade called on both federal and state governments, along with the organized private sector, to take urgent steps towards a consensus on the minimum wage.

    He stressed that resolving these issues is not only crucial for maintaining public order but also for ensuring the economic stability and well-being of millions of Nigerian workers.

    The CCC’s recommendations come in the wake of violent protests in other countries, which were sparked by similar grievances over economic and governance issues.

    The Centre believes that proactive measures and dialogue are key to averting such outcomes in Nigeria.

    The retired senior military officer said, “We have identified potentially violent or volatile developments in the country which we believe could spark off unnecessary crises with far-reaching consequences to our national security if they are not well-managed.

    “That’s why I want to identify the ones we can pick on, among many others.” 

    He stated, “First in that list is the yet-to-be-resolved minimum wage issue that has pitched the labour movement against the federal government. We do not subscribe to the idea of sweeping this issue under the carpet.

    “We, therefore, want to unequivocally call on the government and the organised private sector to summon the required courage to take the decision on this matter, and to meet and resolve it once and for all, rather than to constantly postpone the resolution of this issue.

    “So, the time to conclude the negotiation that has lasted so long is now, and the earlier it is done, the better. So we strongly suggest that it should be completed. Let’s take a decision on the nation’s minimum wage as it matters.”

    Speaking on the continued violent development in Kenya, Olukolade said the centre also expressed concerns over the antics of those calling for the re-enactment of the anti-tax crisis happening in the country.

    He said, “Those who believe that such destructive protests in Nigeria will be a way to resolving a crisis are rather calling for what is not consistent with our future and desire for a peaceful and progressive nation.

    “So, we want to caution against such tendencies and advise that the development in Kenya in relation to their protests on tax is not a model for us to adopt in resolving our issues in a democracy and that the situation in Nigeria can be better managed with good consensus, discussions, and the necessary consultations.

    “In other words, we are strongly against the idea of making reference to the Kenya-Nigeria civil model. The outcome of the protests is still fresh in our minds and it’s not a thing to re-enact by any other means.”

    He said the political feud in Rivers State has tendencies towards crisis and hence, calling on the parties to act in the general interest of the people.

    The communications expert said, “We are using this opportunity to call on those involved to sheath the sword and relate, and when they relate, we believe that this could be solved, and there’s no need to plunge that state into crisis.

    “We don’t want to see a ripple effect of whatever is going on in terms of the altercations at the moment.”

    He added that the emirship tussle in Kano had a huge potential for volatility.

    “We do not want it to slide into trouble by reason of the Emirship tussle. We cannot combine that with what’s going on in Rivers State. Nigeria’s unity and corporate existence is more important to us than any achievement through fake news and unnecessary sentiments,” he stated.

    BREAKING: Heartbreak For Yahaya Bello As Court Rejects Bid To Transfer Case To Kogi State Over Alleged N80.2 Billion Fraud—–Yahaya Bello, former Kogi State Governor has been denied his request to transfer  his N80.2billion fraud case from the Federal High Court, Abuja Division to the Federal High Court Kogi State Division. The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho turned down Bello’s request.

     

    Justice Tsoho upheld the argument of Dr. Kemi Pinheiro, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, that Bello’s application failed on three grounds.

     

    Governor Bello is facing a 19-count charge of alleged money laundering, breach of trust and misappropriation of public funds of about N80.2b in suit: FHC/ABJ/CR/98/2024, before Justice Emeka Nwite.

     

    Although the former Governor has issued statements denying the allegation, he failed to appear before Justice Nwite on June 13th and June 27th, for his arraignment.

     

    At the last hearing, Bello, through his lawyer, Abdulwahab Muhammed (SAN), filed an application dated June 10, 2024, to the Chief Judge for the transfer of his trial to the Federal High Court, Lokoja.

     

    But Pinheiro opposed him, arguing among others that since the alleged offences were committed partly in Kogi and Abuja, the case could be filed in either places.

     

    In a July 2nd, 2024, letter, Justice Tosho’s Special Assistant, Joshua Ibrahim Aji, agreed with Pinheiro.

     

    Aji had said: “I am directed by His Lordship, the Honourable, The Chief Judge to inform you that he has considered your arguments in support of the application for transfer of the Defendant’s case from Abuja to Lokoja and the response of Dr. ‘Kemi Pinheiro, SAN to same.

    “His Lordship’s position on the matter is as follows:

    “The main complaint in the case borders on alleged conversion and transfer of funds of Kogi State to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to purchase property through acts of concealment.

    “The law permits the filing of the charge either in Abuja, FCT or in Lokoja, Kogi State; the offence(s) having been allegedly partly committed in both places. Hence, this is distinguishable from IBORI v. F.R.N. (2008) LPELR8370 or (2009) 3 NWLR (Pt. 1127) C.A. 94 and other judicial authorities relied upon by the Defendant.

    “The Prosecution has shown with documentary evidence that two criminal charges in the same scheme of alleged fraud leading to the charge against the Defendant, were earlier filed and are being tried in the Federal High Court, Abuja in Charge No. FHC/ABJ/CR/550/22 F. R. N. v. 1. Ali Bello, 2. Dauda Suleiman and F. R. N. v. 1. Ali Bello, 2. Abba Daudu, 3. Yakubu Siyaka Adabenege, 4. Iyadi Sadat. In both charges a formal application was made for their transfer to Lokoja, but the Court in a considered ruling refused the application. The ruling has not been set aside and cannot be reversed by administrative fiat.

     

    “There is documentary evidence of a pending appeal in Yahaya Adoza Bello v. F. R. N. filed on 17/05/2024, wherein the Defendant as Appellant has sought a consequential order remitting the case to the Chief Judge for reassignment. It is not proper to take any step that will be tantamount to pre-empting the outcome of the appeal.”

    The Judge also considered the issue of jurisdiction.

    “The main issue raised is jurisdictional in nature and will be more appropriately decided by the court. The matter should therefore be presented in open Court.

    “Please, accept the esteemed regards of His Lordship, the Honourable, The Chief Judge,” Aji added.

    Bello has been having a running battle with the  EFCC over his arraignment for which the Court declared him wanted following his snubbing  its orders.

    JUST IN: Super Eagles Striker Kayode Olarenwaju Demands N1bn From Pastor Adegboyega After Seeking Divorce From Wife——Super Eagles striker Kayode Olarenwaju has petitioned a Federal Capital Territory High Court to end his marriage to his estranged wife, Ezinne, claiming that it has irretrievably broken down.

     

    The European-based player, who is also seeking custody of their children, sought the court to order UK-based pastor Tobi Adegboyega to pay him ₦1 billion in damages for the emotional pain, financial loss, and loss of goodwill caused by his “adulterous affair” with Ezinne.

     

    Olarenwaju and Ezinne had been in a marital dispute over suspicions of adultery, among other things.

    The situation became more complicated when Ezinne filed a lawsuit against her estranged spouse.

    In the March 20, 2024 lawsuit, Ezinne accused Olarenwaju of bringing false charges of infidelity and witchcraft against her and her mother, and Olarenwaju broke her phone in the process.

     

    She said, “Upon arriving from Turkey personally and without prior notice to his wife or children, the Respondent rained abuses on the Petitioner and her mother, making baseless accusations of infidelity and witchcraft and trying to force the Petitioner out of her matrimonial home. In the process, the respondent smashed the petitioner’s iPhone 15 Pro-Max beyond repair.”

     

    However, in a cross-petition marked PET/304/2024, filed on July 1, 2024, and reviewed by our correspondent on Monday, the Super Eagles striker accused Ezinne of frequently committing adultery with the pastor stationed in the United Kingdom and other men since their marriage in 2013.

    In Olarenwaju’s cross-petition, the respondents and co-respondents are Ezinne and the pastor stationed in the UK.

    The Super Eagles striker also alleged in his cross-petition that his estranged wife kidnapped their children, who were eventually rescued by Department of State Services agents.

    He said, “Whilst the Cross Petitioner was still trying to get his facts right and phantom a means to have all the lingering issues resolved, the Respondent, under the guise of going to church on March 24, 2024, abducted the children of the marriage and absconded to an unknown location in Abuja.”

    The respondent then instructed his lawyer to file a petition with the DSS regarding the kidnapping of the children from the marriage.

    “Pursuant to the aforesaid petition, the DSS was able to track the location of the respondent and get her arrested with the children of the marriage in her hideout somewhere in Brains and Hammers Estate, Abuja. The respondent was subsequently granted bail,” it added.

     

    Olarenwaju also accused his estranged wife of undermining their joint business ventures.

    Olarenwaju said, “The Cross Petitioner, in his bid to have a lifetime investment in Nigeria, decided sometime in 2019 to incorporate a company and indeed incorporated DE-J-S Concept Ltd. as a vehicle for his investments in Nigeria and also made the Respondent a shareholder and a director.

    “The Cross Petitioner thereafter purchased many properties from one realtor, Ugochukwu Igboanugo of Ziloc Constructions Limited, who was initially introduced to the Cross Petitioner by the Respondent, and it was later discovered that the said Ugochukwu Igboanugo was an ex-lover of the Respondent.

    “Unknown to the Cross Petitioner, the Respondent has connived with the said Ugochukwu Igboanugo and collected all the property documents and has been solely and personally collecting rent proceeds from the properties, expending the same on her amorous relationship with the Co-Respondent to the Cross Petition.”

    On why the court should grant him custody of the children, he said, “The respondent is not bothered with the educational and mental well-being and stability of the children of the marriage, as the same is evident in her actions by having romantic and sex-related discussions with the co-respondent and other men in the presence of the children. Indeed, her absconding with the children while school is in session without regard to academics leaves much to be desired.”

    Olarenwaju’s reliefs read, ”An order for a decree of dissolution of the marriage between the cross-petitioner and respondent/petitioner on the ground that the marriage has broken down irretrievably.

    “An order granting custody of the children of the marriage to the cross-petitioner with the right of access to the respondent.

    “An order against the Co-Respondent for the payment of the sum of N1,000,000,000 to the Cross Petitioner for the emotional trauma, financial loss, and loss of goodwill occasioned by the adulterous relationship between the Co-Respondent and the Respondent.”

    The case has been slated for hearing on September 24, 2024.

    BREAKING: FG Suspends Taxes On Importation Of Food Commodities For 180 Days To  Overcome High Food Prices——The Nigerian government has declared a temporary suspension of duties, tariffs, and taxes on the importation of specific food items, including maize, husked brown rice, wheat, and cowpeas.

     

    According to a statement released by Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, on Monday, this measure is part of a comprehensive plan to address food inflation in Nigeria over the next 180 days.

    This move aims to provide relief and mitigate the effects of food price increases in the country.

    At a press briefing today, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, said the measures will be implemented over the next 180 days:

    1. A 150-Day Duty-Free Import Window for Food Commodities

    a. suspension of duties, tariffs and taxes for the importation of certain food commodities (through land and sea borders)

    b. These commodities include Maize, Husked Brown Rice, Wheat and Cowpeas

    c. Under this arrangement, imported food commodities will be subjected to a Recommended Retail Price (RRP).

    (I am aware that some good citizens might be concerned about the quality of the would-be imported food commodities as it relates to the trending worries around the genetic composition of food.) I am glad to reiterate that the Government’s position exemplifies standards that would not compromise the safety of the various food items for consumption.

    2. In addition to the importation by private sector, Federal Government will import 250,000MT of Wheat and 250,000MT of Maize. The imported food commodities in their semi processed state will target supplies to the small-scale processors and millers across the country.

    3. Engage relevant stakeholders to set a Guaranteed Minimum Price (GMP) and mop up surplus assorted food commodities to restock the National Strategic Food Reserve.

    4. Continuous ramp-up production for the 2024/2025 farming cycle.

    a. sustained support to smallholder farmers in the ongoing wet season farming through existing government initiatives.

    b. strengthen and accelerate Dry Season Farming across the country.

    c. embark on aggressive agricultural mechanization and development to reduce drudgery, drive down the cost of production and boost productivity.

    d. collaborate with Sub-National to identify irrigable lands and increase land under cultivation.

    e. work closely with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, to rehabilitate and maintain irrigation facilities under river basin authorities across the federation.

    f. development of a strategic engagement for youth and women across the federation for immediate greenhouse cultivation of horticultural crops such as tomatoes and pepper to increase production volume, stabilize prices, and address food shortages.

    g. fast-tracking ongoing engagements with the Nigerian Military to rapidly cultivate arable lands under the Defence Farms Scheme, while encouraging other Para-Military establishments to put secured available arable lands to cultivation.

    5. The Renewed Hope National Livestock Transformation Implementation Committee will be inaugurated on Tuesday, 9th July 2024 with a view to developing and implementing policies that prioritize livestock development and ensure alignment with the National Livestock Transformation Plan.

    6. Enhancement of Nutrition Security through:

    a. the promotion of production of fortified food commodities and

    b. offer necessary support to scale up the Home Garden Initiative by the Office of The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

    Over the next 14 days, in close collaboration with the Presidential Food Systems Coordinating Unit (PFSCU) and the Economic Management Team (EMT), we will convene with the respective Agencies to finalize the implementation frameworks.

    We will ensure that information is publicly available to facilitate the participation of all relevant stakeholders across the country.

    The PFSCU will manage a dashboard for Mr. President, providing him with direct visibility into these interventions and ensuring accountability.

    The success of the measures aforementioned is contingent on cooperation and collaboration of all relevant MDAs and stakeholders.

    As our nation confronts a critical food security challenge, let me reiterate Mr. President’s unwavering commitment to attaining food security and ensuring that no Nigerian goes to bed hungry.

    David Hundeyin Says MKO Abiola Was Also A Criminal [VIDEO]—–Nigerian investigative journalist David Hundeyin has alleged that the late chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, popularly called MKO Abiola, amassed his wealth through dubious means.

     

    Hundeyin made the allegations while responding to a question in a podcast by Noble Nigeria.

     

    Hundeyin, who also alleged that President Bola Tinubu amassed his wealth by engaging in illegal schemes, alleged that Abiola made “his money under similar circumstances.”

     

    “Before Tinubu, there was the original Tinubu who went by the name MKO Abiola, and despite all of his wealth and all of his money, his money was made under similar circumstances, by the way, because MKO was also a criminal. Let’s be clear about that,” Hundeyin said.

    ‘”There is no type of illegal activity that man was not involved in,” he added.

    “Gun running, coup financing, smuggling of illegal or illegal commodities—his hand was inside, and he made a fantastic fortune.

    “He also alleged that there was nothing illegal that happened between 1878 and 1992 that his hands were not inside.”

    He also blamed Abiola for Nigeria’s delay in having telecommunications systems in the country until the early 2000s.

    “He basically got a huge contract to provide the backbone for telephones in Nigeria, and it turned out to be a contract scam because he just pocketed the money and did not do the work,” he claimed.

    Abiola, who died on July 7, 1998, in Abuja, Nigeria, was a Nigerian business executive, philanthropist, and politician who is hailed as a figure of democratic change in Nigeria.

    After nearly a decade of military rule, democratic elections were held in Nigeria on June 12, 1993.

    The businessman ran as the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party in a two-party race.

    The election was described by observers as the freest and fairest in Nigerian history.

    After the voting, initial results indicated that Abiola, who had garnered votes across ethnic and religious divides, would be the clear winner of the election.

    Before the official results were announced, however, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, the military leader, annulled the election. This provoked a political crisis.

    Abiola rallied domestic and international support by claiming the presidency that he appeared to have won, which led to his 1994 arrest on a charge of treason by the military regime then led by Gen. Sani Abacha.

    During his imprisonment, Abiola was deprived of outside news and subjected to solitary confinement and abuse that included negligent medical care.

    His release seemed imminent following the death of General Abacha in June 1998.

    However, Abiola died suddenly under mysterious circumstances, arousing suspicions of foul play, although a heart attack was officially declared to be the cause of death.
