BREAKING: Facility Set Ablaze As Suspected Boko Haram Terrorists Attack Oyo Military Base [DETAILS]
Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have attacked an Operation Burst security base along the Igbeti-Igboho Road in Oyo State, setting the facility and an abandoned vehicle ablaze and carting away a generator and motorcycle.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. in an area linking Olorunsogo and Oorelope Local Government Areas of the state.
The Chairman of Olorunsogo Local Government Area, Kazeem Olayanju, who confirmed the incident, said no casualty was recorded during the attack.
According to Olayanju, the attackers set fire to the security post constructed for Operation Burst personnel at the location before also burning an abandoned vehicle.
He said the assailants also made away with the security outfit’s generator and motorcycle during the attack.
“The information is true. But there is no casualty. They burnt the security post we constructed for them,” Olayanju said.
He added, “They also set ablaze an abandoned vehicle there. They also carted away their generator and motorcycle. It occurred today around 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.”
Operation Burst is a joint security outfit comprising personnel of the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The outfit was established by the administration of the late former Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, to strengthen security and combat criminal activities across the state.
The attack has raised fresh security concerns along the Igbeti-Igboho corridor, although there was no immediate confirmation from the security agencies that the attackers were members of Boko Haram.
