The era of Pep Guardiola at Manchester City is set to end this week, with the Spaniard expected to step down after the club’s final two Premier League matches of the season.
Guardiola will take charge against Bournemouth on Tuesday, May 19, and Aston Villa on Sunday, May 24, before departing the Etihad, bringing down the curtain on a remarkable decade in Manchester.
The timing follows City’s 1-0 win over Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday. The win secured the domestic double after their Carabao Cup success in March and could mark Guardiola’s final trophy as City boss.
City remain outsiders in the title race. They must win their remaining matches and hope Arsenal drop points against either Burnley or Crystal Palace.
Guardiola arrived in 2016 and reshaped the club’s history. His side claimed six league titles, including four in a row, alongside a first UEFA Champions League crown. Three FA Cups, five League Cups and three FA Community Shield titles followed as City collected 20 trophies in total.
The Mirror reports that key stakeholders have been informed ahead of a formal announcement after the final game of the season. The timing is designed to allow supporters a farewell during the trophy parade scheduled for May 25.
Despite having a year left on his contract, Guardiola’s future has been uncertain for months. There is speculation he could remain linked to the club in another role.
Attention has already turned to possible successors. Former City assistant Enzo Maresca and Vincent Kompany, now in charge of Bayern Munich, are viewed as leading contenders.
Guardiola previously managed Barcelona and Bayern Munich before his move to England. His exit will close one of the most successful managerial chapters in modern football.
