BREAKING: APC Governor Declares March 1 Eid al-Fitr Holiday For Schools

The Governor Abba Yusuf-led government of Kano State has announced Sunday, March 1, as the official commencement date for the Eid al-Fitr holiday for all public and private primary and post-primary schools across the state.

The Genius Media Nigeria reports that the development was made known on Wednesday in a statement issued by the Director of Public Enlightenment, Kano State Ministry of Education, Musbahu Aminu Yakasai.

According to the statement, the decision aligns with the approved 2025/2026 academic calendar, which indicates that the second term will conclude on Saturday, February 28.

Yakasai stated that both day and boarding schools are expected to proceed on the Sallah break from the approved date.

“All day and boarding schools across Kano State will commence their Sallah break from March 1,” he said.

He further urged parents and guardians, particularly those with children in boarding facilities, to make adequate arrangements ahead of the holiday.

“Parents and guardians are urged to ensure that pupils in boarding schools are conveyed home by the early hours of Friday, 27 February 2026, to facilitate a smooth transition into the holiday,” Yakasai added.

The statement also clarified the resumption schedule for the continuation of the academic session.

Boarding school pupils and students are expected to resume on Sunday, March 22, while day students will return to school on Monday, March 23, 2026.

It added that the second term will run from March 22 and end on Saturday, April 18.

The ministry directed all schools to adhere strictly to the resumption timetable, warning that non-compliance would be regarded as a violation of the state government’s directive.

The state Commissioner for Education, Ali Makoda, called on parents, guardians and school authorities to ensure full compliance with the approved academic calendar.

“We urge all parents and school authorities to cooperate with the ministry to ensure that the academic calendar is maintained without disruption,” Makoda said.

He also expressed appreciation to residents for their continued support of government policies in the education sector.

“We wish all pupils and students a successful completion of their Ramadan fast and a joyful, peaceful Sallah celebration,” he added.

The announcement provides clarity for thousands of pupils, students and school administrators across the state as preparations intensify for the Eid al-Fitr celebration.
