According to Tell magazine, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, is once again at the center of controversy after reports emerged that he secretly acquired a $2 million (₦3.2 billion) mansion in Florida, United States, using the names of his wife, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike, and their children Joaquin, Jazmyne, and Jordan.

According to investigative reports from West Africa Weekly, the property is located at 113 Spring Creek Lane, Winter Springs, Florida, and was secured in March 2025 through private brokers. Records suggest the full payment was made under his family’s names, a move critics describe as a strategy to keep the asset hidden from Nigeria’s official asset declaration requirements.

The valuation history of the house has raised serious questions. The property sold for $535,000 in 2011 and only appreciated slightly over the years, reaching $545,856 in 2019. By 2021, it dropped to $537,000 before rising to $650,832 in 2023, and then $715,915 in 2024. However, in early 2025, its price inexplicably jumped to $2 million—a 180 percent increase within months, far above the normal appreciation rate. Analysts suggest the unusual spike could be a red flag for a possible money laundering scheme.

This revelation comes on the heels of previous allegations linking Wike to a $3.6 billion Abuja land scandal, where plots were allegedly distributed to family members, political allies, and associates. The whistleblower behind that case was reportedly arrested, fueling suspicions of political cover-ups.

The matter has also attracted attention due to Justice Eberechi Wike’s dual role as both a Nigerian judge and a registered member of the U.S. Democratic Party, a fact critics argue could present legal and ethical concerns.

Reactions have flooded social media, with Nigerians demanding an EFCC investigation, though many doubt the anti-graft agency will act given Wike’s political influence. Others speculated that if he has invested in the U.S., it is likely he holds more assets in Europe and Dubai, where acquisition laws are more relaxed. Some commentators even joked that $2 million is too little for a politician of Wike’s caliber, suggesting the Florida mansion may only represent a fraction of his hidden wealth.

As of now, Wike and his family have not publicly addressed the allegations.
