Arsenal have overtaken Tottenham in the battle to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze.

The Genius Media Nigeria reports that The Gunners reached an agreement in principle with Palace for a £60m deal, plus £8m in add-ons.

Sources said Eze, 27, prefers Arsenal where he started his youth career despite Spurs being locked in talks with Palace for over a week.

Tottenham were close to sealing the deal earlier on Wednesday, but Arsenal stepped in and hijacked the move.

Mikel Arteta wants Eze as cover for injured forward Kai Havertz.

Palace boss Oliver Glasner insists Eze will play in Thursday’s Conference League tie against Fredrikstad, but the England international is pushing for an Arsenal switch before the September 1 deadline.

Eze scored 14 goals last season, including the winner in the FA Cup final against Manchester City. He joined Palace from QPR in 2020 for £19.5m and is under contract until 2027.
