I ‘ll Pursue Special Status For #Ibadanland, if…- Olusola #Ayandele—-Dr Olusola Ayandele, an All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial aspirant, says he will pursue special status for Ibadan at the Senate, if given the mandate.
Ayandele made the promise on Wednesday at the inauguration of his “ERUOBODO 2023 SUPPORT GROUP” in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Ibarapa-born businessman, was a governorship aspirant of APC in the 2019 general election in the state.
Ayandele said Ibadan deserved special status, adding that such would form part of the projects he intend to pursue at the National Assembly.
“One of those things I intend to discuss at the Senate, when given the opportunity, is a special status for Ibadan.
“Ibadan serves the whole of Western Region with many of them on their own now. Some policies must be put in place and all must change for the better,” he said.
Ayandele, who declared his interest in the Oyo South Senatorial seat, said that the senatorial district constituted 63 per cent of the voting capacity in Oyo State.
“I contested the APC governorship ticket in 2019 and despite the fact that I am from Ibarapa, I was one of those three shortlisted out of the 33 local governments.
“That was 33 local governments; now I’m contesting the Senatorial seat in just nine local governments,” he said.
The senatorial aspirant said that his unique advantage was that he was the only aspirant who already has four of the nine local governments.
Also, Chief Ademola Ojo, an APC Chietain, said that the committee inaugurated was to consult and galvanise delegates for Ayandele ahead of the party’s primaries.
Ojo said that members of the committee were drawn from the nine local governments.
He described Ayandele as capable and qualified aspirant, who “brandishes intimidating profile among all”.
In his remarks, Alhaji Kehinde Olaosebikan, a former Chairman, Oluyole Local Government area, pledged his total support for Ayandele’s ambition.
“We were both APC governorship aspirants in 2018 and I found him a worthy person. A strong bridge builder,” he said.
Olaosebikan said that Ayandele’s victory would come like that of late Chief MKO Abiola, who won elections, irrespective of where he come from
