Liverpool have completed the £35m signing of 24-year-old England midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal.

Chamberlain passed a medical on Wednesday after the Gunners accepted Liverpool’s bid. Oxlade-Chamberlain has since agreed personal terms on a long-term deal, and the transfer was confirmed at 12pm today.

It is understood the fee could eventually reach £40m with appearance-based add-ons.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said he was “really happy” to have signed an “exciting” talent he “didn’t need to think twice” about.

The German described Oxlade-Chamberlain as a “positive” player who is “willing to take risks” and “has the mentality and desire to get even better”.

He added: “This is someone making a tough decision to leave one great club and come to another great club and I think he had many options, so to get him means I am delighted.

“He didn’t make an easy decision but I think he made a great one to go on this journey with this squad of talented boys and our great supporters. I welcome him to the Liverpool family.”

Speaking from England’s St George’s Park base Oxlade-Chamberlain said: “I’m delighted to have signed for Liverpool and a big thank you to everyone here at the FA that has made this possible, using the facilities. It has been a massive help.

“I’m not going to say too much. I’m here with England and we’ve got two big games coming up, so I want to focus on them. But I can’t wait to get to Melwood.”

The England international’s final game of a six-year spell at Arsenal came at Anfield on Sunday as he was part of a side beaten 4-0 by Jurgen Klopp’s Reds.
