BREAKING: LASU Reaffirms Commitment To Research And Global Academic Collaboration
The Lagos State University (LASU) has reaffirmed its commitment to scientific research, innovation and international collaboration to strengthen its position in the global academic community.
This was contained in a statement issued on the university’s social media platform on Thursday in Lagos.
The statement said the university hosted a lecture delivered by a South African physicist, Prof. Genene Mola, of the Department of Physics, University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
The Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Prof. Ayodeji Badejo, said the university was intensifying research-driven scholarship by creating opportunities for academics and students.
She said the initiative would enable them to interact with distinguished scholars, exchange ideas and explore emerging developments across scientific disciplines.
According to her, such engagements would provide platforms for research partnerships, strengthen internationalisation and improve the university’s global academic standing.
The statement said Mola delivered a lecture titled “Nanostructured Materials as a Mechanism for Collection of Photocurrents in Thin Film Polymer Solar Cells”.
Mola examined the role of nanostructured materials in improving photocurrent collection in thin-film polymer solar cells.
He explained that the properties and applications of nanoscale materials could enhance light absorption and photocurrent collection, thereby improving solar cell efficiency.
The physicist also highlighted the potential of polymer-based solar cells as lightweight, flexible and potentially cost-effective alternatives to conventional solar technologies.
He stressed the importance of materials science research in promoting scientific innovation and practical applications in solar energy.
Mola also expressed appreciation for Nigeria’s warmth and hospitality, saying his experience had challenged some negative perceptions he previously held about the country.
The statement said his remarks highlighted the role of international academic engagements in promoting knowledge exchange, cultural understanding and stronger relationships across countries.
