PHOTO: 1000 Rounds Of Ammunition Recovers As Army Dismantles Kidnappers’ Camp In Kogi
Troops of the Nigerian Army have dismantled a suspected kidnappers’ camp in Kogi, recovering about 1,000 rounds of ammunition and six motorcycles.
The operation was conducted in Edimogbo Forest, Igalamela-Odolu Local Government Area, by troops of the 21 Battalion, 12 Composite Brigade.
The Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Composite Brigade, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Lokoja.
Abdullahi said the operation followed credible human intelligence indicating that suspected kidnappers were taking refuge in the forest.
He said the suspects fled deeper into the forest upon sighting the advancing troops, prompting a pursuit towards their hideout.
“Although no further contact was made with the suspects, troops successfully dismantled and destroyed the existing camp.
“This denied the criminals a safe haven for their nefarious activities,” he said.
Items recovered included approximately 1,000 rounds of 7.62mm x 54 ammunition, seven bandoliers, two shovels and a hand pump.
Other recoveries comprised a mobile phone, a Glo modem, packets of soap, a jerrycan of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and clothing.
Troops also recovered pairs of shoes and six Daylong motorcycles during the operation.
Abdullahi said the operation demonstrated the brigade’s commitment to maintaining pressure on criminal groups and restricting their freedom of action.
The Commander, 12 Composite Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Kasim Sidi, commended the troops for their prompt response, determination and resilience.
Sidi urged them to sustain the operational tempo and remain vigilant in ongoing efforts to rid Kogi of criminal elements.
The commander reassured residents of the Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
He also urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies.
