The Nigerian Institute of Management Chartered (NIM) has elected Dr Umar Mustapha as its 26th President and Chairman of Council.
The NIM Registrar, Dr Taiwo Olusesi, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.
Mustapha, the institute’s Deputy President, succeeds retired Commodore Abimbola Ayuba, whose tenure has ended.
Olusesi said Prof. Emmanuel Umana, Vice-Chancellor of Obong University, was elected Deputy President, while Lady Christie Adejoh, a management consultant, emerged as National Treasurer.
She said Mustapha is the Chief Executive Officer of Mentholatum Nigeria Ltd. and a former Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of the University of Ibadan.
According to her, he has more than 40 years of professional experience, including over three decades in chief executive and board-level positions across the public and private sectors.
“At the University of Ibadan, he provided leadership in institutional governance, policy reforms and financial restructuring.
“He also served as chairman of the Kano State Committee on Public-Private Partnerships, council member of Al-Qalam University, Katsina, and chairman of the manufacturing sector committee of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria,” she said.
Olusesi said Mustapha previously served as managing director of Raleigh Nigeria Plc, where he led operational reforms and business expansion initiatives.
She added that his international experience included consultancy and research assignments involving the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and multinational corporations.
Olusesi said Mustapha holds four doctoral qualifications and six master’s degrees from universities in the United Kingdom, Australia, France and Nigeria.
“He is also a fellow of several professional bodies, including NIM, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Directors and the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
“Within NIM, he has served in various capacities, including deputy president, council member, executive committee member, chairman of the Board of Fellows and chairman of the Programmes Committee,” she said.
Olusesi expressed confidence that the newly elected officers would build on the institute’s achievements and strengthen its relevance as a professional management body.
She also commended Ayuba and the outgoing leadership for their contributions to the institute’s growth, reaffirming NIM’s commitment to leadership continuity and management excellence.
