Hunye Welcomes Adeola’s Threatened Lawsuit Over Ekiti Ancestry Allegation

ABEOKUTA — The camp of the All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant in Ogun State, Hon. Abayomi Hunye, has welcomed the threat of legal action by Senator Solomon Adeola over allegations concerning his ancestral origin.

Adeola, who represents Ogun West Senatorial District, had threatened legal action over claims by Hunye’s camp concerning his alleged Ekiti ancestry.

However, in a statement on Tuesday signed by Hunye’s Media Adviser, Femi Oyewale, the former Ogun State commissioner said the camp was ready to meet the senator in court.

Hunye’s camp also claimed that the matter was already before a court, describing Adeola’s threat of another lawsuit as unnecessary.

“We welcome the threat of a lawsuit with open arms. We are more than ready to meet Senator Adeola in a court of competent jurisdiction,” the statement said.

The camp accused Adeola and his media handlers of attempting to divert attention from the substantive issues by issuing a 24-hour ultimatum and threatening legal action.

It said, “For far too long, the political space in Ogun West has been subjected to intimidation, high-handedness and the suppression of truth through media propaganda and sponsored brickbats.

“Senator Adeola’s resort to a 24-hour ultimatum and threats of legal action is nothing more than a familiar diversionary tactic, a media gimmick designed to bully dissenting voices and evade public accountability.”

Hunye’s camp argued that questions concerning the origin and eligibility of a political candidate were matters of public interest, particularly in the build-up to the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.

It said the electorate had the right to scrutinise the background and eligibility of anyone seeking to govern the state.

The statement further claimed that Hunye’s camp would present documentary evidence before the court to support its position on the disputed ancestry claim.

“We assure the public that we will not be cowed by intimidation or legal blackmail. In court, we will present robust, verifiable facts and documentary evidence substantiating our claims regarding his alleged Ekiti ancestry,” it said.

The camp urged residents of Ogun State, particularly those in Ogun West, to remain calm, insisting that the controversy should ultimately be determined by evidence and the law rather than media exchanges.

“The courtroom is where evidence is tested, not the pages of newspapers or sponsored broadcast interviews,” the statement added.

The development comes amid the escalating political contest ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State, with rival camps increasingly trading accusations over the eligibility, political standing and background of aspirants.

Hunye’s statement was signed by Femi Oyewale, Media Adviser to Hon. Abayomi Hunye.
