ILARO-YEWA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – With political activities gathering momentum ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, the Chief of Staff to the Senator representing Ogun West, High Chief Kayode Odunaro, has urged the people of Ogun West to unite behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.
Odunaro made the call on Thursday, September 3, 2026, during a ward meeting and grassroots mobilisation exercise at Ilaro Ward 2, Igbo-Ewe, in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, where he received a rousing welcome from party members and supporters.
Speaking at the meeting, Odunaro recalled his first encounter with Senator Adeola more than 14 years ago, stressing that the senator had since demonstrated consistent commitment to the development of Ogun West and Ogun State as a whole.
He specifically cited Adeola’s role in the transformation of the Oronna Ilaro Festival into a nationally and internationally recognised cultural tourism event, as well as his efforts towards the transformation of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, into a Federal University of Technology.
The APC chieftain also highlighted the senator’s contributions to infrastructural development, including roads, ultra-modern markets, healthcare facilities and school buildings, among other projects, which he described as unprecedented for a legislator in the history of the state.
According to him, Adeola’s numerous empowerment programmes and developmental projects across Ogun West and other senatorial districts were clear evidence of his commitment to improving the welfare of the people.
He maintained that the senator’s record of interventions should be judged by their impact on the people rather than dismissed as political propaganda.
Odunaro further argued that the principle of fairness and equity demanded that Ogun West be given the opportunity to produce the next governor of the state, noting that the senatorial district had waited for more than five decades to realise the aspiration.
He therefore charged APC members and supporters to intensify grassroots mobilisation for Adeola, urging them to take the campaign to every household, street and junction in order to secure unprecedented support for the APC candidate.
He also appealed to the people of Ilaro and Ogun West to vote massively for Adeola and other APC candidates, expressing confidence that Ilaro would give overwhelming support to the Yayi candidacy.
“I am sure all of us here are for Yayi. But we need to convince many more people that Yayi is the best man for the job on the basis of proven competence, integrity, equity and fair play”, Odunaro stated.
Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of Yewa South Local Government, Hon. Bankole Sherifdeen Olarenwaju, reaffirmed his commitment to mobilising support for Adeola and called for broad-based support for the APC candidate across Ogun State.
He said the local government was complementing the developmental efforts of both Senator Adeola and the state government.
In his remarks, former Chairman of Yewa South Local Government, Alhaji Sunmola Kayode Adewale, who was on a visit to the ward, said the longstanding aspiration of Ogun West to produce a governor could be achieved through the emergence of Senator Adeola Yayi in 2027.
“I am a long-standing member of PDP, but I made a vow that once Yayi is chosen as the candidate, I will join his team, and I did.
“I urge everyone to reject the ponzi antics of the opposition of one person bringing three persons and support Yayi fully”, he stated.
Adewale described Adeola as the candidate capable of breaking what he termed the over 50-year political jinx confronting Ogun West in its quest to produce a governor.

The ward meeting formed part of the ongoing grassroots mobilisation efforts as political parties and their supporters intensify preparations for the 2027 governorship election.
