REPORT!!! Leaked NECO Papers Sold For N3000
Education Minister Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa says examination questions were allegedly sold for as little as N3,000 before candidates sat National Examinations Council papers, calling the scale of malpractice in Nigeria “mind-boggling.”
Alausa spoke on Thursday at a meeting with the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools and other stakeholders.
He warned parents, teachers, proprietors, principals, invigilators and students against practices that undermine public examinations.
He said malpractice had become entrenched, leaving students who prepared honestly at a disadvantage.
He recalled a case in which questions were obtained before an exam and sold for N3,000, with the source nicknamed “Wushishi.”
During the 2025 exams, he said, leaked questions were repeatedly sent to him. Officials had to check with examination bodies and sometimes confirmed the papers matched those scheduled for the day.
Alausa said students were often the smallest players in a system where parents, schools, teachers, invigilators and principals colluded.
Minister of State for Education Prof Suwaiba Said Ahmad urged private school owners to back reforms, including serialised questions that would make leaked papers harder to use.
She said schools should finish their curricula on time and push consistent study, adding that the ministry would keep engaging stakeholders as the changes take effect.
