REPORT!!! FBI Confirms Tinubu Was Subject of Criminal Drug Trafficking Investigation [DETAILS]
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has confirmed in a sworn declaration filed before a United States federal court that Bola Tinubu was previously the subject of a criminal investigation into drug trafficking.
Accruing to PN, The declaration was submitted on August 28, 2026, before the United States District Court for the District of Columbia as part of ongoing litigation over requests for the release of FBI records concerning Tinubu.
In the filing, the FBI stated that the records in question were compiled as part of its investigation of multiple individuals for drug trafficking crimes. The agency also noted that the court had already determined that an official acknowledgement had been made regarding an investigation of Tinubu.
The declaration was signed by an FBI official serving as Acting Section Chief of the Record/Information Dissemination Section, who outlined the agency’s handling of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests seeking records connected to the investigation.
Among the records requested were the FBI file relating to Tinubu and FBI Form 302 interview records associated with FBI Case No. 245-IP-71386-UUUUUU covering the period between 1992 and 1993.
The latest filing follows an April 2025 ruling by US District Judge Beryl Howell, who determined that the FBI and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) could no longer rely on “Glomar” responses to refuse to confirm or deny the existence of records concerning the Tinubu investigation.
Judge Howell had ruled that the agencies had not established sufficient privacy grounds to conceal the fact that Tinubu had been the subject of a criminal investigation.
The FBI’s latest declaration explains why portions of the requested records remain withheld under several FOIA exemptions, including provisions covering personal privacy, confidential sources, law-enforcement techniques and information whose disclosure could endanger individuals.
The document was publicised by Von Batten-Montague-York, a Washington-based lobbying firm representing former Nigerian Vice-President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 Nigerian election. The firm said it had received a large volume of records and was reviewing and redacting portions of the documents before publication.
The development has renewed scrutiny of longstanding questions surrounding Tinubu’s past and the US records connected to the early-1990s investigation, with the FBI’s declaration adding to the ongoing legal battle over what information from those records can be released to the public.
