Tope became the subject of public concern in November 2024 after revealing she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Actress Foluke Daramola appealed to Nigerians for financial support, disclosing that she had undergone one surgery but needed another procedure estimated to cost about N12 million. Other colleagues, including Alesh Sanni and Tawa Ajisefini, also joined the appeal.
Later that month, Daramola announced that Toba had successfully undergone surgery and was recovering, thanking members of the public who donated towards her treatment.
In August 2025, the actress announced her return to Nollywood after completing treatment. She said surviving cancer had changed her life and that she wanted to use her experience to inspire others while raising awareness about the disease. Doctors confirmed that the cancer had not spread, and she completed radiation therapy before being declared cancer-free.
On December 2, 2025, she celebrated her 40th birthday, describing it as a milestone she once feared she would never reach because of her illness. She reflected on her journey through cancer and expressed gratitude for life, saying the experience had taught her the value of hope, courage and resilience.
