President Bola Tinubu and other dignitaries are expected to gather in Abuja on July 13 for the launch of a global book of tributes marking the first anniversary of the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, disclosed this on Wednesday while unveiling the programme of events planned in honour of the late Nigerian leader.

Speaking on behalf of the Central Planning Committee, Mustapha said the commemoration would feature interfaith prayers and the public presentation of a book of tributes by President Tinubu.

Mustapha said the late former president, who died on July 13 last year at the age of 82, would be remembered through activities that reflect the values he upheld during his life and public service.

“The programme will consist principally of interfaith and interdenominational prayers, reflecting the values of unity, faith and national cohesion that he upheld throughout his life and his service to our country,” Mustapha said.

He added that the memorial would bring together Buhari’s family, friends, associates, public officials and other well-wishers to celebrate his life and pray for the repose of his soul.

A major highlight of the anniversary programme will be the public presentation of a book titled ‘Tributes and Condolences in Honour of Muhammadu Buhari.”

According to Mustapha, the publication contains reflections and condolence messages from world leaders, diplomats and political figures who interacted with the late former president.

“In its pages, the global community, including heads of state, diplomats, and political leaders, remembered the late President as a man of simplicity, resilience, and integrity,” he said.

He clarified that the publication was intended as a historical record and would not be sold.

“I should add that the book is neither for sale nor for fundraising. It is for free distribution,” Mustapha added.

Mustapha said the event would also provide an opportunity for those who worked closely with the late president to share firsthand accounts of his leadership style, personality and historical legacy.

He said, “A select number of individuals who worked closely with the late President will speak to his historical legacy and share their personal experiences of him.”

The committee expressed hope that the first anniversary would bring comfort to Buhari’s family, friends and admirers, while reminding Nigerians of his legacy of public service.

“Our hope is that the occasion will not only honour the memory of the late President, but also serve as a source of comfort and encouragement to his family, his friends, his admirers, and the entire people of this country who continue to cherish his worthy legacy of service to the nation,” Mustapha said.

He urged the media and the public to use the remembrance period to promote national unity and called on Nigerians “to pray, individually and in congregation, in all our places of worship, for the repose of his soul.”
