BREAKING: NDC Faces Possible Deregistration As Court Case Lingers

Fresh uncertainty has enveloped the newly registered Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) following the emergence of a legal challenge contesting the legitimacy of its registration.

The dispute, now before the court, was initiated by the convener of the League of Northern Democrats (LND), Umar Ardo, who has expressed strong confidence that the party’s registration will ultimately be nullified.

Ardo disclosed that legal proceedings are already underway, insisting that the outcome will favour his position. According to him, the case is rooted in alleged irregularities surrounding the approval of the party by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Speaking during an interview with an online platform, he stated unequivocally: “We are in court over NDC irregularities in registration by INEC. The court will cancel the NDC registration.”

The development adds a new layer of tension to Nigeria’s evolving  political landscape, particularly as new political platforms continue to emerge ahead of future elections. Ardo, who is also a key promoter of the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), has maintained that due process was not followed in granting recognition to the NDC.

While INEC has yet to issue an official response to the allegations, political observers note that the case could set a significant precedent regarding party registration standards and electoral compliance.

As the matter proceeds in court, the fate of the NDC now hangs in the balance, with stakeholders closely watching for a ruling that could either affirm or invalidate its existence as a political party.
