JUST IN: Ali Giwa Appointed As New Police Force Media Officer
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved the appointment of Chief Superintendent of Police Ali Giwa as the Force’s New Media Officer.
The development was confirmed on Sunday by the former Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a post on 𝕏.
“Equally, the IGP has approved the appointment of CSP Ali Giwa @aleeygiwa as Force New Media Officer,” Hundeyin wrote.
The appointment forms part of the newly created New Media Office at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The office is expected to strengthen the Nigeria Police Force’s digital communication strategy and improve public awareness of police operations.
Giwa, a Chief Superintendent of Police, has more than 15 years of experience in law enforcement, public order management, cybercrime investigation and cybersecurity.
He currently serves as a cybersecurity specialist at the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre in Abuja.
Before the appointment, Giwa had held several positions within the police.
He served as Police Assistant to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in the Department of Logistics and Supply between September 2023 and December 2024.
He also previously worked as Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Cooperative Multi-Purpose Society Limited.
In addition, Giwa served as Assistant Police Public Relations Officer at the Obalende Annex in Lagos and later as Deputy Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Command.
Over the years, he has also handled operational duties as a crime officer, surveillance officer and human rights officer across different police formations in Lagos State.
The appointment comes shortly after the Inspector-General approved the appointment of Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Okon Placid as the new Force Public Relations Officer.
According to a statement from the Force Headquarters, Placid is a seasoned officer with experience in administration, operations, intelligence, training and international peacekeeping.
Born on December 2, 1970, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, he hails from Mbiokporo Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo and a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos.
Placid also obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the National Open University of Nigeria.
