Security measures have been tightened around the United States Capitol after the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait was struck during Iranian missile attacks carried out on Sunday and Monday.

According to CNN, a source familiar with the situation said that the U.S. embassy compound in Kuwait was impacted during the bombardment.

The scale of damage to the embassy remains unclear, though smoke was reportedly observed rising near the compound on Monday after the strikes.

However, no injuries were reported, according to both the source and a U.S. official, while the official declined to confirm whether the diplomatic facility sustained a direct hit.

In a security alert issued on Monday, the U.S. Embassy warned of a sustained threat of missile and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks across Kuwait and urged American citizens to remain indoors and take precautionary measures.

“There is a continuing threat of missile and UAV attacks over Kuwait,” the embassy was quoted as stating.

The mission advised individuals to avoid visiting the embassy and instead seek shelter inside their homes.

“Do not come to the Embassy. Take cover in your residence on the lowest available floor and away from windows. Do not go outside,” the notice said, adding that embassy personnel were “sheltering in place.”

In a follow-up advisory, the embassy announced the suspension of all visa services and American Citizen Services appointments until further notice due to the deteriorating security situation in the region.
