Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao will meet again this September in a rematch of their record-breaking 2015 showdown, with Netflix confirming on Monday that it will stream the bout live from the spectacular Sphere in Las Vegas.

The fight is scheduled for 19 September and marks the first professional boxing event to be staged at the Sphere, the futuristic venue that opened in 2023 and quickly became known for its vast wraparound interior screen and immersive atmosphere.

More than ten years have passed since their original meeting, dubbed the “Fight of the Century”.

That bout shattered financial records, drawing 4.6 million pay-per-view buys and generating over 600 million dollars in revenue. Mayweather, who won comfortably on points, is believed to have earned around 300 million dollars from that night alone.

Both men are now in their late forties, yet the appetite for a second instalment has never quite disappeared. Speculation intensified last week when Mayweather announced he would come out of retirement once more.

In a joint statement, Pacquiao said: “Floyd and I gave the world what remains the biggest fight in boxing history. The fans have waited long enough, they deserve this rematch.”

The Filipino icon, 47, made it clear he sees this as more than just another payday. “I want Floyd to live with the one loss on his professional record and always remember who gave it to him,” he said. “As always, I dedicate this fight to my fellow Filipinos around the world and to bring glory to the Philippines.”

Mayweather, unbeaten in 50 professional contests before retiring in 2017, dismissed any notion of a different outcome. “I already fought and beat Manny once. This time will be the same result.”

Although Mayweather officially stepped away from the sport nine years ago, he has remained visible through a string of exhibition appearances.

Pacquiao also returned to action last year after a four-year absence, having previously retired in 2021 to focus on a presidential run in the Philippines. His comeback in Las Vegas ended in a draw against Mario Barrios.

The event represents another bold move into live sport for Netflix.

The streaming giant has increasingly targeted headline-grabbing occasions, and few names in boxing command the global recognition of Mayweather and Pacquiao
