BREAKING: UBA Appoints Chioma Mang As CEO Africa 1 [DETAILS]

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Group has appointed Chioma Mang as Chief Executive Officer of UBA Africa 1, placing her in charge of the bank’s operations across Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia and Mozambique.

The appointment strengthens UBA’s regional leadership architecture and positions the Africa 1 cluster as a key driver of the Group’s continental expansion strategy, spanning West, East and Southern Africa.

Mang steps into the role with extensive senior-level experience in African commercial banking, having previously led several UBA subsidiaries through periods of restructuring, growth and institutional consolidation. Her career includes top executive roles in Liberia, Gabon and Uganda, where she focused on restoring performance, tightening governance structures and reinforcing risk management systems.

Brandspur Banking News Desk understands that Mang’s elevation reflects UBA’s renewed focus on regional coordination, leadership depth and long-term value creation across its multi-market footprint.

Throughout her career, Mang has been credited with building resilient banking institutions and high-performing management teams, while navigating complex regulatory and economic environments. Under her leadership, multiple UBA subsidiaries achieved notable operational turnarounds and earned international recognition, including Best Bank awards from the Financial Times of London.

Beyond her banking credentials, Mang brings a strong legal and governance background to the role. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Reading and a Master’s degree in Commercial and Corporate Law from University College London, alongside several executive management certifications from global institutions.

In her new capacity, Mang is expected to drive sustainable growth, stronger customer confidence, leadership development and consistent value delivery across all Africa 1 markets. She will work closely with country managing directors, regulators and strategic partners to deepen UBA’s presence and competitiveness in the region.

Industry stakeholders have welcomed the appointment, describing the Africa 1 role as a strategic command centre within UBA’s pan-African structure. Internal executives have also expressed confidence that Mang’s leadership style and institutional experience will strengthen cohesion across the diverse markets under her supervision.

With the appointment now effective, Chioma Mang assumes responsibility for one of UBA Group’s most strategically important regional clusters, as the bank continues to expand its influence across Africa’s key financial corridors
