Dalet Battalion secured a remarkable victory at the 2025 Cadets’ Brigade Inter-Battalion Cross Country Competition on Saturday at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Afaka.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the fiercely contested race began at the Tri-Service Gate and covered a demanding 14-kilometre route across the Academy.

Cadets from Mogadishu, Abyssinia, Burma and Dalet Battalions pushed through the challenging course, displaying notable endurance and determination throughout the race.

The Special Guest of Honour, Maj.-Gen. Oluyemi Olatoye, represented by Brig.-Gen. Taiye Ahmed, addressed the gathering at the event.

Olatoye emphasised the lasting significance of physical fitness in military service and its value beyond conventional weaponry.

He stressed that strength and endurance remain essential qualities for every soldier, especially during critical national defence duties.

He urged cadets to keep pushing their limits as they prepare for future responsibilities within Nigeria’s defence architecture.

The Commandant praised Cadets Brigade Commander, Brig.-Gen. A. N. Eze, for hosting the competition and commended officials and support teams for their professionalism.

He said their combined efforts further strengthened the Academy’s reputation for discipline and excellence in military training.

Announcing the results earlier, Chief Judge Lt.-Col. I. F. Alison applauded all participants for their discipline, resilience and sportsmanship.

Dalet Battalion topped the table with 11,100 points, while Abyssinia Battalion followed with 11,010 points. Burma Battalion scored 10,450 points, with Mogadishu placing fourth.

A highlight of the event was the recognition of outstanding individual performances in both the male and female categories.

NAN report that exceptional cadets who placed in the top three received medals and tokens in acknowledgement of their efforts.

Brig.-Gen. U. M. Ibrahim (Rtd) and several NYSC members serving at the Academy were also honoured for their commendable participation.

The ceremony climaxed with Dalet Battalion receiving the championship trophy for their resilience, teamwork and readiness.

The event showcased athletic excellence and reaffirmed the Academy’s commitment to producing strong, united and professional officers.
