The Kwara State University (KWASU) has ordered the temporary relocation of staff and students from its Ilesha Baruba campus to the main campus in Malete, following rising security concerns in parts of the state.

The institution disclosed that the decision became necessary as a precautionary security measure in view of recent developments affecting some communities.

The Kwara State Government had earlier closed several schools in local government areas recently attacked by bandits.

The government, however, assured residents of ongoing efforts to restore normalcy. It stated that it was already collaborating with the Federal Government “to leave no stone unturned” in securing the affected LGAs.

Naija News reports that KWASU’s Ilesha Baruba campus is situated in Baruten Local Government Area, which recorded attacks in recent weeks before relative calm returned.

In a statement signed by the Acting Director, University Relations, Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, the university said a recent assessment showed no immediate threat, as staff and students were “in good spirits despite the planned relocation.”

Aliyu noted: “Our visit to the Ilesha Baruba campus showed that the environment remained calm, with students and staff in good spirits despite the planned relocation.”

The management added that arrangements for the institution’s 13th Convocation Ceremony, scheduled to commence on December 9, were already in top gear. It said the Ilesha Baruba community would participate fully in the convocation activities at the Malete main campus.
