The Nigeria Police Force has reportedly invited Wunmi Aloba, widow of late singer Mohbad, for questioning as part of a renewed investigation into his death.

One suspect, Ayobami Sodiq popularly known as Spending, has also been detained and flown to Abuja for further interrogation.

The widow appeared before officers of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) following a petition by United Advocates Group (UAG), a human-rights coalition.

According to a police memo, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, directed the Force’s legal section to review issues raised in the petition. In a statement, Barr. Oluwatosin Adefajo of the UAG commended the IGP and senior officers for their “responsiveness to public petitions” concerning Mohbad’s death. The group also urged other persons of interest to come forward voluntarily.

Mohbad, born Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, died on 12 September 2023 after a performance in Ikorodu and was buried the following day.

Following public outcry, his body was exhumed for autopsy and toxicology analysis, though results were inconclusive. Dissatisfied with initial investigations by Lagos State Police Command and FCID Panti, the UAG submitted a five-page petition to the IGP in August 2024, seeking a fresh probe.

Since then, the group said it has maintained communication with the IGP’s office, filing follow-ups and providing updates. Between April and May 2025, private investigators and legal consultants reportedly gathered new evidence, prompting the IGP to approve a renewed investigation. The UAG praised the professionalism of the police team, which led to the identification and detention of new suspects.
