RESIDENTS of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have expressed gratitude to President Donald Trump of the United States of America following assurances of improved security from the FCT Police Command, which has announced a large-scale operation to combat crime across the capital city and its environs between November 2025 and January 2026.

In a statement released on Sunday, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Miller G. Dantawaye (PSC), confirmed that the Command had commenced an intensive security operation involving multiple specialised police formations, including the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), the Police Mobile Force (PMF), and the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU).

Dantawaye disclosed that the deployment would cover all divisions and strategic areas of the FCT, focusing on “identified black spots, criminal hideouts, and vulnerable communities.” He emphasised that the operation would be executed with professionalism, integrity and respect for human rights.

“We are determined to ensure that every resident of the Federal Capital Territory feels safe throughout the coming festive season and beyond. Our officers have been directed to intensify surveillance and domination patrols while maintaining high standards of discipline,” Dantawaye said.

The police chief urged residents to cooperate fully with law enforcement by reporting suspicious movements and sharing credible information to aid security efforts. He also published emergency contact numbers for the command — 0806 158 1938 and 0803 200 3913 — and the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) hotline at 0810 731 4192.

Residents Commend Trump And The Police

Following the announcement, several residents and community groups in the FCT praised the initiative, noting that it coincides with President Donald Trump’s recent threat to launch military operation in Nigeria following allegations of Christian genocide in parts of the country. Many citizens interpreted the timing of the operation as a response to the American President.

A resident of Garki, Mrs Hadiza Ali, told Eighteen-Eleven Media that she felt reassured by both the government’s response and President Trump’s vocal stance on protecting lives globally.

“We thank President Trump for showing concern about security everywhere and our police for taking quick steps to protect Abuja residents. It gives us hope that the authorities are finally serious about tackling crime,” she said.

Another resident, Mr Chidi Eze, commended the deployment of tactical units, saying the visible presence of armed officers around hotspots in Nyanya, Gwagwalada and Jabi had already discouraged criminal activity.

“You can now see policemen at junctions at night; it was not like this before. If this continues till January, Abuja will be safer,” he remarked.

Multi-Agency Operation Underway

The operation, which runs from November 2025 to January 2026, is designed to cover the festive period and the New Year celebrations, a time when cases of armed robbery, car theft and kidnapping typically spike in the FCT. Tactical officers from the SCID, PMF and CTU have been assigned specific jurisdictions to ensure maximum coverage and rapid response to distress calls.

According to internal police sources, the Command has also activated intelligence-sharing channels with sister agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), to track criminal movements and intercept illegal arms circulation within the territory.

CP Dantawaye Pledges Accountability

Commissioner Dantawaye reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining accountability, assuring that any officer found guilty of unprofessional conduct during the operation would face disciplinary action.

“This operation will not only protect lives and property but also rebuild public confidence in the police. We are determined to keep Abuja peaceful for every law-abiding citizen,” he added.

Background

The FCT Police Command’s new security campaign comes amid increased concern over rising cases of burglary, one-chance robbery and bandit incursions on the outskirts of Abuja. Analysts say the combined deployment of tactical teams across the territory marks one of the most comprehensive anti-crime efforts since 2023.

Residents, meanwhile, continue to express cautious optimism — crediting both the domestic initiative and the international pressure led by President Donald Trump, which they believe has pushed Nigerian authorities to step up internal security measures
