The Super Eagles will face Gabon in the semi-finals of the African section of the 2026 FIFA World Cup play-offs after the qualifying group matches concluded on Tuesday.

The Super Eagles qualified after defeating Benin 4-0 earlier in the day, while Gabon secured second place in Group F with a 2-0 victory over Burundi, and Ivory Coast won the group with a thrashing of Kenya.

DR Congo also qualified with a tight 1-0 win over Sudan, finishing second in Group B behind Senegal, while Cameroon joined them after finishing second in Group D behind Cape Verde.

The play-offs, featuring the four best runners-up from the nine African qualifying groups, are set to take place in Morocco from November 13 to 16.

Nigeria, which is anticipated to remain the highest-ranked African squad when FIFA reveals its new rankings on October 23, will meet Gabon, the lowest-ranked of the four.

Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of the Congo will face off in the other semi-final.

The semi-finals will take place on November 13, and the winners will face off in a single-leg final three days later.

The winner will advance to the inter-confederation play-offs in March 2026 for a chance to qualify for the World Cup finals in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

The matches will be played as single-leg knockouts in a venue to be determined by CAF later. If the scores are tied after 90 minutes, 30 minutes of extra time will be played.

Morocco will host the mini-tournament, providing Africa with another chance to qualify for the 48-team World Cup.

All nine African group winners have already qualified for the finals, and the playoffs will determine if the continent can add another representative through the intercontinental route.
