VIDEO: President Tinubu Explains Delay In Appointing Ambassadors

President Bola Tinubu has admitted that the delay in appointing Nigerian ambassadors is due to the complexity of the process and his determination not to “appoint just anybody” into such critical roles.

Speaking in a video message made available on Tuesday, the President said he still has “some slots” for ambassadorial positions but stressed that compiling a credible list had not been easy.

Tinubu said, “I couldn’t appoint everybody that I could have appointed, thank you for your patience till now. I still have some slots for ambassadorial positions that too many people are craving for, but it’s not easy stitching together those names.”

The President explained that his top priority remains stabilising the economy and restoring hope to Nigerians before finalising diplomatic appointments.

He further stated, “First of all, cure the economy, bring hope to the people as that is what we stop for and that hope is here. Thank you for believing in me.”

Tinubu appreciated Nigerians for their patience and understanding, promising that the appointments would come in due time.

The last set of Nigerian ambassadors were appointed under the administration of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Since Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, he has faced mounting pressure from citizens and interest groups to unveil his list of envoys, particularly as diplomatic missions continue to operate without substantive heads.
