A former Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Ahmed Aliyu Mustapha, has passed away at the age of 76.

TGM gathered that Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, announced Mustapha’s demise in a statement via his official X handle on Thursday.

Fintiri described the deceased as a man of service, dignity, and duty, whose legacy will live on in the hearts of the people of Adamawa.

He wrote, “Deeply saddened by the passing of Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Mustapha, former CG of Customs.

“A man of service, dignity and duty whose legacy will live on. My prayers are with Lamido Adamawa, the Mustapha royal family and all who mourn him. May Allah grant him Aljannah Firdaus.”

The deceased joined the Customs Service as a cadet officer and rose through the ranks before he was appointed Comptroller-General in 1999.

His tenure was notable for intensified anti-smuggling operations and his participation in several national task forces aimed at combating economic sabotage.

In 1988, he was honoured with the Ministerial Award for Outstanding Performance.

Mustapha retired from the Service in December 2003 after more than 30 years of active duty.
