A man identified as Lucky Refenaman from Bayelsa State has claimed to be the biological son of Former Lagos State Governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking out in a video after years of alleged rejection, Refenaman says he has been searching for his father since 2016, driven not by financial motives but by a desire for familial reconciliation.
According to Refenaman, his late mother, once a dancer for Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, met Tinubu during her time with the band, a connection that allegedly led to his birth.
He claims that at the age of two, his mother took him away from Tinubu due to safety concerns.
She later passed away in 2013, leaving him without further guidance or support.
Since then, Refenaman says he has made numerous attempts to reach Tinubu, including sending letters to the Oriental Hotel in Lagos and visiting Tinubu’s residence in Ikoyi.
Despite these efforts, he reports being repeatedly turned away, even after briefly speaking with a personal assistant.
“I’m not here to claim wealth,” Refenaman stated in a viral video. “I just want to be recognized. If DNA proves otherwise, I’ll return to Bayelsa and move on.”
His plea comes at a time of heightened scrutiny surrounding Tinubu’s administration, particularly following his appointment of son-in-law Oyetunde Ojo as Managing Director of the Federal Housing Authority in February 2024, a move widely criticized as nepotistic.
Refenaman’s story underscores broader societal challenges in Nigeria, where individuals claiming kinship with powerful figures often face skepticism, legal hurdles, and public dismissal.
It also raises questions about the responsibilities of public figures toward alleged family members and the emotional toll of unresolved identity.
