Governor Dapo Abiodun Reveals Why Gbenga Daniel’s Properties Must Be Demolish

The Ogun State Government has revealed why it is set to demolish properties belonging to Gbenga Daniel, senator representing Ogun east, dismissing claims that Governor Dapo Abiodun is targeting Senator Daniel with quit and demolition notices.

The Genius Media Nigeria recalls that Daniel, in a statement on Saturday, alleged that Governor Abiodun had ordered the demolition of his private residence in Sagamu, The Asoludero Court, Conference Hotels Limited, and its annexe.

In the statement by his media aide, Steve Oliyide, the senator stated that the order was communicated through contravention, quit, and demolition notices pasted on the properties on Friday, August 8, at approximately 4 p.m., with a three-day deadline.

Copies of the notices cited provisions of the 2022 Urban and Regional Planning Law of Ogun State as the basis for the planned demolition.

Daniel dismissed the allegations of contravention as “laughable,” describing the governor’s action as “political vindictiveness at its highest shameful level.”

Reacting to the statement issued by Daniel’s media office alleging “political persecution” over notices served on his private residence in Sagamu and his hotels in the state, Kayode Akinmade, special adviser on information and strategy to Governor Abiodun, said the allegation is “false” and aimed at causing disaffection in the state.

He said the exercise is part of an ongoing urban renewal and development audit in Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode government reservation areas (GRAs), adding that the audit covers houses, schools, hospitals, and other commercial buildings to determine their permit status.

He said the Senator’s property is within Sagamu GRA and was served notices alongside many other buildings as required under the state’s town planning law.

While stating that the process is not new, he added that the regulatory framework has existed since Daniel’s tenure as governor.

According to him, affected owners are to present their planning permits and land titles to the relevant government office for verification.

He accused Daniel of “crying wolf” and using “cheap blackmail” to score political points instead of complying with the lawful directive.

Akinmade said: “Nobody is bigger than the state.

“If anyone is after Senator Gbenga Daniel, it is certainly not the governor of Ogun state.”
