Controversial Nigerian clergyman, Prophet Chukwuemeka Odumeje, has once again stirred public debate with a bold statement targeting Nigerian university students and their course choices.

In a viral video currently making the rounds on social media, Odumeje was seen addressing his congregation during a church program as he urged Nigerian youths especially those from less privileged backgrounds to be intentional about the university courses they pursue.

According to Odumeje, the self-styled “Indaboski,” certain university courses are “useless” and should be avoided entirely, especially by students who do not come from wealthy families.

He listed courses such as Sociology, Political Science, History, and Library and Information Science as examples of what he called “non-profitable degrees” in today’s economic climate.

Watch the video below;

While Odumeje is no stranger to controversy, his latest comments about university courses to pursue have generated a flurry of reactions online. Many netizens surprisingly agreed with his take, arguing that the Nigerian job market rarely rewards graduates from such fields unless they have powerful networks or exceptional luck.

However, others condemned the pastor’s remarks as dismissive and disrespectful to people who have pursued and succeeded with those degrees.

Despite the backlash, the clergyman has promised to continue his list of so-called “useless courses,” teasing more revelations in the coming weeks.

The Genius Media Nigeria reports that Odumeje’s educational background includes primary education at Nweje Primary School and secondary education at Providence Secondary School. Due to financial constraints, he was unable to pursue higher education. Instead, he worked as an apprentice in the leather business in Onitsha.
