BREAKING: At Last, Israel Vs Hamas Reaches Ceasefire Deal In Gaza

BREAKING: At Last, Israel Vs Hamas Reaches Ceasefire Deal In Gaza—-Israel and Hamas have officially reached a ceasefire-hostage deal in Gaza.

The Genius Media Nigeria reports that the deal is supposed to see all Israeli hostages held by Hamas terrorists released, and the war stopped.

The ceasefire deal comes after about one year and three months since the way started in October 2023.

It could be recalled that the war started after Hamas terrorists attacked Israelis, killing some and abducting a lot more others.

On October 7, 2023, Hamas and other Palestinian militant groups launched a coordinated attack on Israel.

The attack marked the first invasion of Israeli territory since the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.

The attack, codenamed “Operation Al-Aqsa Flood,” began with a barrage of over 4,300 rockets launched into Israel.

I was followed by vehicle-transported and powered paraglider incursions into Israel.

The Israeli-Hamas war casualties

The attack resulted in significant casualties, with 1,139 people killed, including 695 Israeli civilians, 71 foreign nationals, and 373 members of the security forces.

Additionally, 364 civilians were killed and many more wounded at the Supernova Sukkot Gathering, an open-air music festival celebrating the Jewish holiday of Sukkot near kibbutz Re’im.

Hamas militants also infiltrated several Israeli communities, including Kfar Aza, Be’eri, and Nir Oz, killing residents and abducting hostages.

The attack was widely condemned by governments around the world, with many describing it as a terrorist attack.

The Israel-Hamas war, which started in 2023, has resulted in a staggering number of casualties.

As of December 10, 2024, the reported death toll stands at over 46,000 people, with 44,786 Palestinians and 1,706 Israelis killed.

Breakdown of Casualties:

  • Palestinian Casualties: 44,786, with 80% believed to be civilians
  • Israeli Casualties: 1,706, including 815 civilians killed in the October 7 attacks
  • Journalists and Media Workers: 141-156 killed
  • Humanitarian Aid Workers: Over 224 killed, including 179 UNRWA employees

The conflict has also resulted in widespread destruction, displacement, and a humanitarian crisis.

Presently, over 2.2 million displaced people in Gaza are experiencing food insecurity at emergency levels.

The ceasefire deal reached by Israel and Hamas in Gaza has been regarded as a welcome development, as it signals an end to the humanitarian crisis witnessed since the war broke out.

Previous Israeli-Hamas encounters and casualties

The number of Israeli military personnel who have died in the Israel-Hamas conflict is difficult to determine with exactitude, as the conflict has been going on for decades.

Moreso, Israeli military does not always release up-to-date casualty figures.

However, below are some information on the number of Israeli military fatalities during recent conflicts with Hamas:

  • Operation Cast Lead (2008-2009): 10 Israeli soldiers were killed during this three-week operation in the Gaza Strip.
  • Operation Pillar of Defense (2012): 2 Israeli soldiers were killed during this eight-day operation in the Gaza Strip.
  • Operation Protective Edge (2014): 67 Israeli soldiers were killed during this 50-day operation in the Gaza Strip.

The figures do not include those who may have been killed in other incidents or attacks.

According to the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a total of 153 Israeli soldiers have been killed in combat operations in the Gaza Strip since 2006.

However, it is difficult to determine the exact number of Israeli military fatalities in the conflict with Hamas.
