The goal of the new department, which will operate outside the traditional bounds of government, is to bring an entrepreneurial approach to governance.
The appointments will not require Senate approval, allowing Musk and Ramaswamy to maintain their roles at Tesla, X, and SpaceX.
The department will collaborate with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget to push forward large-scale structural reforms by July 4, 2026, marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
Musk, who played a significant role in supporting Trump’s election campaign, has long been a supporter of the former president.
