PHOTO: Lagos Lawmaker Empowers Constituents With #POS, Startup Capital—-A Lagos lawmaker, representing Kosofe 1, Mr Sanni Okanlawon, has distributed 50 Points-of-Sales (POS) machines and N25, 000 to each of beneficiaries as startup capital.
This he said was to empower his constituents in reducing poverty in the society.
Okanlawon, a member, Lagos State House of Assembly made this known at  the official handling over of the equipment to beneficiaries of the OKLA Micro Business Support Scheme in Lagos on Tuesday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the high point of the programme was the handling over of the devices to the beneficiaries and training programme on the usage of the device.
Okanlawon, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Education,  Ministry and Agencies,  said the equipment and the startup capital was distributed among the four wards in the constituency.
He noted that empowerment was outside his usual assistance to his constituents, adding that his stewardship since 2019 had changed narrative and ensured that his constituency took its rightful state.
The lawmaker added that the support programme was borne out of his passion to assist the financial less privileged in the society.
“This idea was borne out of the passion I have for the people and you can see that the present economy situation is hard hit.
“So the only way to lessen the pains is for everybody to put their hands together in concerted effort to ensure that in their capacity,  help the less privileged.
“Therefore, this is one of the ways and that is why we have introduced the agent banking where POS will be used for online transactions.
“This little assistance at times can go a long way because at the end of the day, some operators do make up to N5,000 daily as their profit, depending on their commitment.
“I have promised them that I will further increase the start up capital from N25,000 to N50,000 if they are serious with the business so they can be more productive in it.
The lawmaker, therefore, said  a monitoring team would track their business activities and additional N25,000 would be added to beneficiaries that were serious about the  business.
He noted that  though their duty was to make laws, oversight functions, he had performed some representation works to ease the livelihood of his constituency such as the facilitation of some projects in the area.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr Michael Onikosi, from Ward E, Mende, Kosofe LGA, thanked the lawmaker for showing a good representation to his constituents.
Onikosi said it was a good development and urged other representatives to emulate the  empowerment.
Another beneficiary, Mrs Christiana Agunbioye, from Ward A Oworoshoki, in the LGA,  said the equipment would go a long way to improve her business.
She said: “Like myself, I am a businesswoman and I have customers that prefer to make online payment to buy my goods.
“So this equipment  will further ease my business transactions.  I appreciate him because he has been doing a lot for us in the Kosofe constituency
