Former Super Eagles captain, Jonh Mikel Obi, is back in England with his family after Trabzonspor terminated his contract.

The Ex-Chelsea man left the Karadeniz Fırtınası after he spoke out against Turkish football authorities’ decision to continue with the Super Lig.

Many European Leagues are currently on hold due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus. The pandemic which originated from China has killed over 8,000 people.

The UEFA Champions League and Europa League have also been postponed as measures are being put in place to contain the virus.

However, the Super Lig is one of the few European Leagues that is still in action, and Mikel expressed his discomfort at the decision.

The 32-year-old expressed his displeasure in an Instagram post and reportedly refused to play in Trabzonspor 1-1 draw against Istanbul Basaksehir which led to the termination of his contract.

Following the decision, it appears the Nigerian has his heart set on a return to England.

Mikel is currently in his London home with his family, and he hinted he might decide to stay in England as it keeps him closer to his family.

Mikel had two separate stints in English football with his first spell coming during an 11-year stay with Chelsea. He left the Blues in 2017, but returned to UK shores last year, signing a six month deal with Middlesbrough.

And with him without a club right now, Mikel revealed he might decide to sign for another English team.

“I hope (there will be offers from elsewhere). I hope I will be back out on the pitch once everything is settled and everyone is back at work, everything is back to normal, Mikel told the Athletic.

I want to be out there as soon as possible. But we have to defeat this virus first.

“I am looking forward to my next chapter. I don’t know where it’s going to be. I want to be closer to home, somewhere in England maybe. But we will see what happens. The best option is where I will go.

“In the meantime, my girls will help keep me fit! I will be in the gym too, and if I can, I will do some running outside.”
