The Federal Government has been advised to exercise restraint as the parents of the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, will be buried next week.

Addressing newsmen in Umuahia, Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother, Mr Emma Kanu, appealed to the Federal Government to stop harassing Afaraukwu community with soldiers.

Emma said the family and the Afaraukwu community “are doing all we can humanly possible to ensure that there will be peace.”

He explained that up till last Sunday, “There has been an increased invasion of the community.

“The last one happened two days back (Sunday) where soldiers in their hundreds invaded the community and sent the people running helter skelter.

Kanu said, “Why this unnecessary invasion? This is what I consider to be provocation.”

He advised the Federal Government to “stay away from us and allow us to bury our parents.

“My parents passed on as a result of Operation Python Dance and we are saying to the world today, putting all on notice that they (FG) should stay clear of the burial.”

He pleaded with the Federal Government to “Please, avoid Isiama Afaraukwu in the course of the burial” just as he assured the people that the family and members of the community were prepared to bury their dead peacefully.

Also speaking on the issue, the President General of Isiama Afaraukwu Autonomous Community, Chief Ikechukwu Ndubueze, said, “What we are doing basically is the burial of our traditional ruler by the entire Afaraukwu, not on Isiama.”

He explained that the community had consulted all security agencies in the state informing them about the plans to hold a peaceful burial.
