Ekemezie was alleged to have forged a BSc certificate from the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He was found guilty by a committee set up by the council to investigate allegations of plagiarism and his claim of obtaining the BSc certificate.

The institution’s registrar and secretary to the council, Philomena Okoye, in a letter, said  the University council was guided by the provision of section 13.1.5 of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Senior Staff conditions of service to interdict Ekemezie from his duty with immediate effect.
