It could be recalled that Ekweremadu, who has occupied the office since 2003 is a member of the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The nomination came barely 10 minutes after the emergence of Lawan as the 9th Assembly Senate President.

The Yobe North lawmaker, who is the former majority leader of the house beat his closest rival, Ali Ndume to the seat, polling 79 votes to Ndume’s 28.

Meanwhile, during his speech, Ekweremadu urges his colleagues not to vote mace snatchers.

Recall that Omo-Agege was alleged to have led in thugs to snatch the mace during a plenary session on the flor of the hallowed chamber last year.
