VISIONSCAPE TO LAHA: We’re Open To Dialogue

“We remain open to dialogue, levelling the competitive playing field and participating in a more inclusive process with all stakeholders in the environment.”

Visionscape Sanitation Solutions has responded to the termination of its services by the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The Chief Executive Officer of the company, John Irvine, said in a statement that it was open to dialogue in its efforts towards getting rid of dirt in the Lagos metropolis.

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, had on Thursday asked the Commissioner for Finance not to release any funds to Visionscape again.

He said the firm did not have requisite clearance from the House in line with the provision of the law, asking PSP operators to resume work again.

But responding to this development on Friday, Irvine said Visionscape would continue to work despite a sustained attack and sabotage of its efforts and assets.

He said, “We have been made aware of statements being attributed to the Lagos State House of Assembly concerning cancellation of our service contract with the Lagos State Government.

“We would like to believe that there is some misinterpretation of the statements being circulated, despite our continued efforts in meeting the performance matrices of our valid and subsisting contract.

“We will nonetheless continue to fulfil the terms of our service contract in the face of a sustained negative sponsored media campaign, as well as persistent and systematic sabotage of our efforts and our assets.

“We remain open to dialogue, levelling the competitive playing field and participating in a more inclusive process with all stakeholders in the environment.”

Meanwhile, the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria, popularly called PSP operators, has described as a welcome development the recall of its members by the Lagos State House of Assembly.

In a statement on Thursday by their spokesperson, Olugbenga Adebola, the PSP operators hailed the development, saying the Assembly had “lived up to the expectation and yearnings of all well-meaning Lagosians.”

The statement partly read, “We were denied access to the Transfer Loading Stations in the state for over two years. Therefore, the resolution that all rubbish dumps and TLSs be opened to PSP operators is in the right direction.”
